Wow, that is awesome!

LWJ 05-10-2023 04:36 PM

That made me grimace...

I prefer the way humans do it. Trading smart alec banter over beers.

pwd72s 05-10-2023 04:36 PM

Ali/Foreman comes to mind...amazing.

WPOZZZ 05-10-2023 05:03 PM

they are fighting over breeding rights... so, it's really like a bar fight over those same few beers....

A930Rocket 05-10-2023 06:20 PM

Looks like a couple of ginormous sumo wrestlers.

flatbutt 05-10-2023 06:48 PM

I wonder how much power was generated between the two of them? Maybe a billion Watts?

i was winded just watching all that.

Jeff Higgins 05-10-2023 08:52 PM

Ummm... that's not a "fight". My Golden Retriever and Lab mix do that in the back yard every day. Yes, this is a display, an expression of dominance, but nowhere near a "fight". They'll be buying each other beers tonight.

JavaBrewer 05-10-2023 09:04 PM

Freaking amazing the power generated and the damage shrugged off. One of the comment asked how a Silverback Gorilla would fair? I am inclined to go with the bear for sheer size and heavy fur. Thoughts?

ya Jeffe, that's it...

the guy narrating has been up there and observing the bears for 20+ years. his play by play trumps you and your dogs playtime comparison.

can't you enjoy it for what it is, or are you gunna be all OT guy with it?

Jeff Higgins 05-10-2023 10:07 PM

I am absolutely enjoying it for what it is. I think you took my comments all wrong. Beautiful animals in an impressive display of strength and power, no doubt about that. I don't mean to minimize that in the least. I guess I'm not sure what you got so upset over my comments...

juanbenae 05-10-2023 11:02 PM

from what Joe said jokes are in green font...

A gorilla has the strength but not those sharp azz claws.

Not much on Earth except a Bull Elephant could stand up to a adult male Grizzly. They can kill an healthy adult bull moose with a swipe of a paw.

This video just shows that old age and experience triumphs over youth, once again! ;)

DavidI 05-11-2023 06:40 AM

Their power and apparent controlled violence is amazing!

BK911 05-11-2023 07:05 AM

Supposedly these bears survived some event that took out MUCH larger bears ?millions? of years ago.
Imagine what that fight would have looked like!

berettafan 05-11-2023 07:30 AM

Funny but as i watched that i thought 'man my dogs do that **** every damned day right in my living room!'.

They do the same in the yard but there's lots more running involved.

Jeff Higgins 05-11-2023 08:32 AM

I've studied these animals all of my life. Not just grizzlies, but every other "big game" animal on the North American continent. And I've hunted most of them as well. The brown bear remains one of the only ones I have not taken, and likely never will. Immense respect and admiration for these animals. Oh, I have gone after them, years ago, but never did manage to find one worth taking. In retrospect, I'm glad I never did.

I have been in this close of proximity to them in the wild. While hunting them, and while fishing "their" rivers. I've never seen them in this kind of a territorial/mating "battle", however. That said, I have been this close to two rutting and similarly "fighting" bull elk. And mule deer bucks, and whitetail bucks. This sort of a contest is far, far different than a real "fight" wherein they are actually trying to kill each other. The level of aggression is far, far lower.

This guy was lucky enough to catch some incredible footage. This is one of the better contests that I have ever seen captured on film, and I very much enjoyed watching it. And yes, this commentator has been up there observing these guys for quite some time. So have lots of other people. And I've watched other video, listened to others' comments and narration, who explain what we are seeing in a far different way. They explain what we are seeing correctly, as a mating/territorial contest. This guy over dramatizes the whole thing - these two bears are not trying to kill one another. Yes, they get injured. But both survive. Both have survived these kinds of contests before, and will survive many more.

The narrator is playing to a less than knowledgable audience, trying to wow and impress them. I finally turned the sound off on his narration and simply enjoyed the show for what it was. It was actually far more impressive without his distracting narration. Just because he has been up there for 20 years doesn't necessarily mean he knows what the hell he is talking about. I mean, just look at this very forum - would anyone consider Dipso an "expert" on California? Stuartj an "expert" on Australia?
