Looks legit to me, and it's fun to relive my own reaction to SRV so many years ago.
So, I'm loading up a whole bunch of Stevie Ray Vaughan right now because I want to hear it all day today.

After hearing Stevie's blues licks on DB's Let's Dance album in early '83, I heard about this Texas dude's new album that was coming out. I purchased Texas Flood the Tuesday it was released... it was my last year of college, and then I soaked up everything

If you don't have the Live At El Mocambo .... get it! I purchased the VHS when released and later the DVD when that format came around.

SRV ... no frills, just a fantastic live show in a small club .... at his epic best!

But I don't have to tell you this h_o

edited: I loved Tommy Shannnon's description of SRV's playing years ago .... "he never played it the same way once .... much less twice"

Live at the Mocambo. Such a great dvd to own and play loudly. So glad I got to see him live. My appreciation for him faded but then came back about 5 years ago. Listen to him all the time now.

I love SRV and his video of warming up with Scuttle Buttin' is unreal.

Me and my Dad used to watch Austin City Limits all the time back when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. One night we turned it on (1980? 1981?) and there was this guy we'd never heard of - Stevie Ray Vaughn. Needless to say we were blown away. I have that original Austin City Limits performance on DVD somewhere...

I've seen an ACL with SRV, but it wasn't that early ... he was a no-name, overshadowed by his older brother and wasn't fronting his own band back then. Lou Ann Barton was the singer before Stevie got his break with Bowie, and then released his Texas Flood album shortly thereafter.

None of his other live video appearances whether ACL or Montreaux, etc. that I've seen even come close to the El Mocambo show imo.

Do search for some of the reaction videos of Roy Clark. Dang that guy was awesome. I remember him from Hee Haw but dang, the guy could shred stringed instruments.

Roy was on the Tonight Show back in the day .... just him and his guitar playing an instrumental version of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" ... he broke a string at the very beginning of the song, didn't miss a beat ... with the broken string going every which way, he just shredded .

He could play anything too....

Mebbe not... it was around that time, I was living down in Jax, FL and SRV was opening up for Hall & Oates. I passed .... knew he had hit "rock bottom" due to massive amounts of cocaine and alcohol, every day. Guy who worked across from me went, and confirmed..... so drunk he could barely stand, much less play.

But he kicked his demons and returned .... his last album with Double Trouble and his collaboration with his brother Jimmie were solid.

We were on a boat fishing 5 miles off of Mayport a few years later having a grand ol' time when we heard on the radio about the plane crash and his death ..... talk about a bummer . He had so much left after cleaning up his act and getting sober.... just tragic.

SRV was already a known commodity by that time, played the infamous Montreux Jazz Fest in 82' where he kinda got boo'd cause the snobby jazz crowd was like WTF did we just witness??????

I had already worn out my first copy of Texas Flood when I found out that SRV was on Let's Dance and my reaction, along with my friends, was, ?? that was a waste of his talent.

Had SRV never appeared on Bowies album nothing would have changed for him, his path was set.

Saw him at a blues festival at the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta a few months before the heli crash. What a heartbreaking loss. Can you imagine the incredible music that never was made?

My SRV stories. (You've all probably heard 'em but I'm telling 'em again here)
First time I saw him, probably 1988, 89 maybe earlier...He was the middle act between John Hiatt and Robert Cray. Outdoor show at the LB Day Amphitheatre in Salem, OR. Hiatt came out about dusk had a great set, maybe 45 minutes..SRV came out, and proceeded to blow the entire crowd into the weeds. NOBODY sat down for the whole hour or whatever that he played.
Poor Robert Cray had to not only follow SRV, but it started to rain right after he played "Strong Persuader". Most of the crowd filed out the turnstiles into the dark talking about what they had just witnessed from SRV.

Second time, it was pretty much right before he was killed, maybe the same tour, I can't remember., He played at the Schnitzer auditorium in Portland. One of the loudest shows I can ever remember, might be the reason I have tinnitus now.

^^^^ Naw .... Let's Dance was released in March of '83 and I distinctly remember being in first summer session in June when I bought Texas Flood. He decided not to tour with Bowie and support his own album..... and at least outside of Texas his work with Bowie was what gave him his initial publicity ....at least in my college town. I went to the record store on the Tuesday Texas Flood was released specifically to buy it .... I wasn't disappointed .

But yeah .... he didn't need Bowie

I saw him July 12, 1989....Johnny Winter wasn't supposed to open but he did. I was in the front row, I remember clearly standing in mud covered with hay looking at SRV's boots....

True that! I have the ACL and Montreaux DVDs too, and while good, nothing (by anybody) comes close to that El Mocambo show

and as I recall, you can see me with a ramones t shirt sitting at a table....kidding, i have no idea who that is but i like it
