Man I hope the original owner didn't think he was going to make any money by leaving it sit.

I don't get "time capsule" cars. Well, I do and I don't. If the car is old enough or rare enough, fine, if you've got the money, then go for it, I would. It would be nice to have a car that was practically perfect. I'd go through all of the fluids, rubber, etc..., and then you'd have a perfect, practically new car which would be impressive if the car was 40, 50, 60 years old. I'd think the original owner(s) were idiots for not driving and enjoying the car, but whatever, their loss would be my gain.
But for a car that's 10-15 years old and not THAT rare, it seems beyond silly to not have driven it. Limited edition? Great, how many were made. Bullitts, that'd be ~6600. If it was something that only 50 or 100 or maybe even 150 were made, great. It's still silly, but sure, that might be an investment. I did like the aesthetics of that generation of mustang. The only thing that would have made it even better was if the rear fender had a curve along the top like a slightly later model. ![]() But overall, I prefer the 2008 body style. It had cleaner lines. The newer cars were trying too hard to look "tough" or "mean". ![]() Jason Statham is tough, but he's not a good look for a car. ![]()

FWIW, $35K is what most stickered for when new. $20-25K will buy a nice low miles (under 50,000) example. Problematic to find an unmolested one though...many had blowers added, suspension mods, appearance mods, etc. I've found my '09 to be a well balanced driver. A car that does nothing in a spectacular manner but does everything well. I've had zero problem in 32,000 miles. Probably the last car I'll buy.

Now these would have been a rare mustang to save, but it still would have been a crime to not drive it. These were absolutely special. https://performance.ford.com/enthusiasts/collector-vehicles/svt/mustang-cobra-r/2000.html How many of the more recent boss 302 were made? Weren't those supposed to be pretty awesome? Then weren't there GT350 or GT350R or something. And I think there were also GT500. Were they as great a handler as the Boss 302 or were they more of a drag car setup? I haven't kept up with the myriad of options in the past 5-10 years, and mustangs in particular in the past 15 seem like they have gone through massive changes every 2-3 years. Or maybe I'm just out of touch.

"For 2012, Ford produced a total of 4,016 Boss 302 Mustangs. There were 3,249 basic cars and 767 Laguna Seca models. For 2013, production amounted to 4,273 cars, with 3,526 of the street version and 747 Laguna Seca editions."
Some claim the '08-'09 Bullitts were the lowest in numbers...I'm not sure of that. I thought I might want one, but just couldn't get past the "boy racer" look, so I passed. The Boss was definitely a good track/street car tho...lapping Laguna Seca faster than a stock BMW M3 of the same year, despite the boss having a live rear axle. Another reason I decided to pass was thinking that my Bullitt was probably the overall better road car, definitely more comfortable on a long drive. GT 500 was built more for the drag strip until (forget the year...newer body style) maybe 2018? (edit) Hey, don't feel bad. It's easy to get out of touch. I've pretty much lost interest in what the latest is in performance cars...so really don't bother keeping track. To answer Aschen...yeah, there were some buying new Bullitt models and putting them away, thinking they were going to make a killing. There have been some offered on The Bullitt posting board I visit. What can I say? These people guessed wrong on making a killing. On the other hand, they do seem to be retaining value well depending on condition.

And a capable (independent rear) suspension.

Both above statements are true. But then, you'd have a GT Mustang, not a Bullitt Mustang. If over 400 ponies and independent rear suspension are your priority, then a '19-20 Bullitt model would do that. However, %age wise, they don't seem to be retaining their resale value as well as the '08-'09.
That could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't the Bullitt mostly a cosmetic package?

More a lack of cosmetic package, plus a few added performance up-grades. (edit) A bit more horsepower, different cams with higher 6.500 redline, lower rear end with limited slip, etc.

Boss 302, Boss 302 leguna seca, PP2 (performance pack), Mach1, Shelby 350 & 350r, GT500, bunch o rousch cars and Im sure there are many I am forgetting
Too many special editions for any of them to be particularly special. Joke in the lotus world if you want to find the most rare version try to find one that isnt a special edition. My 07 exige s was the limited launch edition there were about 60 of them, probably the most common exige S in the us. Nothing against the bullet, I like the color. They coyote powered mustangs of a few years later are much better cars for me though.

A little bit of a loss across 15 years but about what I expected. I like them a lot.
Donut media on YouTube has a lot of interesting car value related videos, FWIW. I saw one where an extremely low mileage GTI from the first year sold for $60k

Now Mecum says sold for $44k. Reflecting the buyers fee? Anyway, factoring in some inflation, means somebody bought a new '08 Bullitt Mustang for around sticker. I hope the buyer drives his money out of it...
