Jim Brown

The goat is gone.

The original JB!! What a man. RIP

Is Jim the brother of bad, bad Leroy?

jcommin 05-20-2023 05:27 AM

I was a young teenager when he retired from football. He was amazing. Growing up in Chicago and a Chicago Bear season ticket holder from 1970 - 1992, Walter Payton was constantly compared to him. Two different styles. Jim Brown punished his opponents.

RIP.

Apparently he also punished many women in his life .

Walter Payton the one and only Sweetness.

Yes, quite a few episodes on record.

And nothing wrong with pointing this out.

A reminder for all that no one is perfect.

Including me.

The man accomplished a lot in his lifetime and much of it worthy of praise.

A shame there was this "other side" of him.

I try not to besmirch those no longer with us - at this point just mention that which you appreciated and move on, I guess.

Heck - Jim might be the first one to admit he was no angel.

Who are we to argue?

Indeed.

Overall however, what he did for young black men over the course of his life is rather astounding. In that respect, his voice will not be replaced

Always liked this highlights reel. (Video cannot be embedded)

RIP.

Glad my dad did not live to see this. He was a die-hard Browns fan. When Lou Groza died he acted like it was the end of professional football. Jim Brown's passing would have sent him over the edge.

You might want to turn the sound off before watching this. Who thought that racket was a good idea?

Jim Brown retired in 1965. Let this sink in:

Their [the Browns] starting offensive line averaged 6'3" and 238 pounds. Brown was 6'2" and 230 or so, with elite speed, balance and toughness.

And he was a "better" Lacrosse player at Syracuse.

Mr. Brown was a glimpse of the future when he retired. Remarkable.

BTW, the NFL is better when the Browns and Bengals of the league are relevant.

Agreed. We're coming up on 40 years since the Browns were relevant.
Seems like "The Drive" killed them forever. I miss the days of Bernie, Mac, and Byner.

I've lost much of my interest in sports of all kinds. My interest in F1 faded along with the influence of the DFV (not that I had any special interest in that engine - it's just coincidene). Can Am was exciting when McClaren and 917s were dukeing it out and Trans AM was fun when I could relate to the cars.

I DVR sports exclusively...even if I want to watch the game - 49'er's still matter but I have not seen an NBA or baseball game from start to finish in over a decade...and I loved baseball and the Giants.

The NFL has some really great young players that I enjoy watching - their "story": win or lose I want them to do well in what is arguably the most difficult competition there is.

Which player is Mac?

Art Modell killed the Browns, not Elway.

He fired Paul Brown. He fired Bill Belichick. He moved the Browns to Baltimore.

But I'm not angry.

JB was just way before my time .... he must have been a monster in his day.

I went to a hockey game once. We sat for over an hour and there was only one score. It was so boring everyone went home after the 3rd quarter.
