Baltimore Orioles
Placed a hummingbird feeder out a few days ago.
A few green ones came by....but the continual user is this one. (in pic) I never knew the Baltimore Orioles liked nectar. (It's in it all the time) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684705165.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684705216.jpg |
Let’s go O’s
|
^^^ They are def loud birds...almost like Boog.
|
The Orioles love sweet stuff. We put grape jelly out for them this time of year. They'll hang around, chowing down on jelly for a few weeks or a month and then move to the tree tops to nest. Then we won't see them again until next spring.

^^^ How do you offer the grape jelly for them?
On a tin plate or something diff? |
We bought this feeder, but anything similar would work. We don't fill the hopper with jelly, we just put a few of spoonfuls in the tray every morning. If you are lucky you might also attract little Orchard Orioles, which is cool because they aren't real common. Chickadees will also eat jelly.
I just took this photo (7:330 PM) and I had put three heaping tablespoons of jelly in it this morning. They are really chowing down. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1684711588.jpg |
^^^ I will try that.
My hummingbird feeder has no tray on the bottom...but I'm sure I can find one that does. These birds are so fun to watch. Smuckers..here I come.:) |
The Orioles beat the Blue Jays today, 3 straight for the O's, they are looking good. Blue Jays are looking for peanuts.
|
Blue Jays are bullies....just because they are bigger, they think they rule.
|
Intresting - I've never seen a Baltimore Oriole live - but this year I have one hitting my hummingbird feeder as well.
|
I placed a couple spoonfuls of grape jelly out this am.....within minutes that Oriole was dipping into it.
I still have only seen the one... |
I thought humming bird feeders were supposed to be hung up, not sitting on something.
|
^^^ I don't think it really matters. Every summer, I have Mandevilla plants on the deck and the hummingbirds are all over those. The feeder just makes it easy for them to fill up.
Just a few minutes after I posted about seeing only one...a female discovered the jelly also. The male that had been there the last couple days is larger and not as brilliant colored as the female. The male also makes a lot of noise with it's call and the female didn't once make a sound. (speaking of the Orioles) |
They make it easy now. Just pop a can and pour it in. This one is orange flavored for Orioles and Hummingbirds.

That male Oriole sure has a loud call. He sits in the tree next to my deck and his call is unmistakable.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685476031.jpg Yeah, I had one try but I don’t think it got much nectar. |
Oriole slurping the grape jelly down....they love it.
They are beautiful birds. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687217506.jpg |

Beautiful birds BTW. |
Being a long time Tiger fan....the Orioles and White Sox were always the enemy.
The Orioles always gave us the toughest games. The White Sox gave us Disco Demolition Night.:D |
