What a coincidence that they of all people would be stopped by police in the middle of an ongoing battle over something probably trivial at best.

So, the police tried to protect her by separating them? What a nightmare for that young lady and her parents. Man, I'm so grateful that my daughter never had to deal with anything like that.

Yep, really hits home when you have daughters. That young man is a lowly coward. My guess is they find his body next. So glad my little girl, now 31 year old, is married to a solid guy.

Several months together in a van and camping for a young couple would surely be a compatibility test. It sounds like it was too long. Sadly, I don't see this with a happy ending for the girls parents/family. The behavior of the boy is certainly very odd, at best.

In the video, both the girl and the guy say that she hit him during their argument. She started hitting him on the face and, at least according to what I saw, he just tried to keep her from hitting him. It didn't appear as if he hit her, but he did push her away. They had clearly had a rough morning.

Feels like more than 'just another murder' story here. Perhaps we are understanding this is just a window into the poor mental health of the entire nation, particularly the young folks we are teaching to be mooches.

The fact he’s silent ( and now missing ) is really bothersome.

She certainly has issues if she’s hitting him while he’s driving.

When I was 17 my then girlfriend would hit me the same way while driving. Couldn’t end that one fast enough. Then she’d claim she was going to harm herself to guilt me into staying.
That went on for far too long.
Finally went our separate ways. The Navy got me, the Air Force got her. Never saw her again.

It sounds to me like she had some issues, and they spent too long in too close and isolated proximity and he did something bad/stupid.

I'd like to think this could/might still work out, but i'm not holding my breath.

From what I had read the argument and interaction with the police started when he got into the van with dirty feet and she freaked out. She tells the police that she has OCD and it comes through in the body cam footage.

She had some issues and there probably would have been an arrest if the roles were reversed in regards to hitting.

That said, there is no reason for things to turn out the way they did. He should have put her on a plane or bus and cut the trip short.

I also think they're going to find him swinging from a tree or dead by his own hand.

So the family knew he was gone since last Tuesday and kept quiet? What was that conversation like? Mom and dad had to know. Which means they also had to know he wasn't coming home from his 'hike'. If he took a life it wasn't up to them to let him go out on his own terms.

Awful for all involved though i hope if my kid had done something like this i'd be dragging him to the police station by his ear. **** the attorney, just go and cleanse your soul!

I watched that Nancy Grace special on Fox News last night and yeah, she blows everything up and sensationalizes everything.
I have a 22 year old daughter and I cannot even begin to imagine what her parents, (and stepparents), are going through.
I cannot fathom why the hell his parents would let him go off hiking at a time like this when he is a person of interest in this case. I get it, parents will protect their children, but really? Truly hope that they find the guy, maybe his plan was to wander off and do himself in and maybe, just maybe he has chickened out of that plan. I believe his parents know everything and are trying to protect their child, but they should've done the right thing. The boy's actions have been suspect from the time he arrived home, in her van, without her, and then immediately lawyered up, parents not talking, nobody talking, yeah, it doesnt look good.

Apparently the appellate courts think so too:
