No disrespect but I think you’re missing the point.

It ain't just about the performance. And the modern Honda is dropping in value every day, and down to nothing when it is hauled to the scrap yard. My 911 will be rebuilt time and time again, long after I am dead. My AC in the 911 kicks butt and as well as any modern car except the temperature control is all manual.

And take that Honda to Eagles Canyon racetrack and drive it for five 20 minute sessions and see how the brakes and the car hold up. Or try it at Laguna Secca for a day on track.

I get your point, but like toasters, Accords as are the same, just an appliance.

And in the end, who has an Accord as their dream car?

This is a timely thread as a neighbor of mine has a collection of some 40 odd radios he's fixed up. I volunteered that I'd like to see them and photograph them. He agreed and will be letting me know shortly when it's convenient. He took his camping trailer out over the holiday weekend and has to put it away first.
I'm looking forward to seeing his collection. He's the gent that has a TR6 and a Studebaker.
I'll ask if I can post pictures of them once I photograph them. Our conversation came around to what would eventually happen to them once he passes on. He doesn't think his kids are going to be interested in them but he doesn't want them tossed out either.

Don't knock Accords if you haven't driven them.

He probably already knows, but if not...a website/monthly for old radio collectors:

Thanks, I'm not sure how much time he spends on the internet. I will tell him about it.

I love the old radios. I started collecting them about 20 years ago but had to stop as I can’t repair them and those that can, or could, disappeared from here along with those that could repair reel to reel tape player/recorders. I have a small collection of those too. Last I new there was 1 guy left in the USA (in NJ) that had all the parts to service Teac R2R players. I know that there are quite a few people around that repair old radios but I no longer take it seriously enough to ship old radios. I think there is a member here that restores them…I remember a thread.

The old radios I still use regularly are from the 60s….mostly Telefunken….and have FM. I set it to the local blues/jazz station and leave it. They sound great…until they start to drift

Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing

In case Sugarwood stops buy to say that the car has replaced the horse and buggy, I also have 8 Alexa’s around the house hooked up to stereo systems that will play any station from anywhere that I ask it. I like it all, old and new

They are indeed a great appliance - generic 2 door sedan. Nothing wrong with them if you want a toaster car that is not a SUV or a pickup.

Not that many people are interested in preserving their vehicles 'till the end of time. They just need something to get them and their families from A to B safely and in reasonable comfort.

This is a non-issue. The vast majority of vehicle owners have absolutely no interest in taking them to a racetrack, or in driving them in a manner that'll over-stress the brakes or any other components.

It's great that you think so much of your 911, but not everyone is lusting after a 38-year old Porsche as their dream car either.

I agree. Most people buying a Honda are buying an appliance to have monthly payments and hope the dealership will not screw them on maintenance. Nothing wrong with that, and they can haul the wife and 2 kids to school and go get groceries and hope the car is paid off before they are upside down on the loan.

That ain't me. I am a car guy, and a big part of the my hobby is working, maintaining, upgrading and driving my 38 year old car at well over 150 autocrosses, track days, and long cross country drives with my wife in the passenger seat. And after all that, I have a car worth nearly three times what it sold for new.

Not an appliance car, but I can indeed go get groceries if I need to.

My dad saw cars as just appliances. I never saw him work on a car. He drove American cars when I was younger, but he switched to Toyota appliance vehicles when he retired. He wanted a car that started every time, stopped when he needed it to, and got him to his destination. Cars were just expensive appliances to get him around. Nothing more. Not a thing wrong with that.

Sorry man…I thought sure it was you who posted about your modern electronic wristwatch. Hence my Accord analogy.

My wife and I seem to be collecting vintage (and not so vintage) sewing machines. Like the radios, some of them are cool even if they don't function.

You should put me in touch with him. I bet he's a member of SCARS (SoCal Antique Radio Society).

Hmmmm. No warning from Trend Micro. They're usually pretty good at giving me the "don't go there" warning. Thanks for the heads up..

I think these are cool, and would love to pick one up for the house. It would never get used, but that's OK.

I sold my dad's Rolex and all of his other nice dress watches when I was closing his estate. I wear a cheap Casio Tough Solar Titanium watch that is pretty much indestructible. And even if it was ruined somehow, it is cheap to replace. It is just an appliance, like my microwave.

I can really appreciate a quality watch, but I am way too cheap to spend the huge money on one that just looks totally out of place when I wear a t-shirt and shorts most of the summer. I get "dressed up" only two or three times per year, and never again will wear a tie.

I did keep my dad's Accutron Astronaut. I had it cleaned, and a new battery put in. But the batteries don't last long, and I never even wore it before the battery died. Now it sits in my safe with no battery installed.

I have an iPhone Model 11 pro as a great appliance and it is my second brain. I know I lived most of my life without a cell phone, but I can't imagine life now without a smart phone. I understand nice appliances. I just don't want one for my personal car. My wife's Macan has bells and whistles and do-dads and is a wonderful vehicle that she loves. My old El Camino recently turned 380,000 miles, and I will turn 190,000 on the 911 before the end of June.

The 911 has a Blaupunkt Bremen and the Elky has a Retro sound head unit that look right in the dash, yet both have Bluetooth, and plays USB drive based music, or streams from my cell phone.

I am a computer nerd. I love gadgets, I just love my old cars that draw attention and compliments from strangers at almost every stop.
