Mercedes Microbus O 319

This Off topic forum gets ALOT more traffic then the MB forum
so maybe ill get lucky and someone out there will know of one sitting around
I have been on the hunt on and off for awhile now
and think its a good time to restore one of these bad boys
so If anyone in their travels come across a old Mercedes O 319 microbus let me know

Here is a picture of a few just in case you saw one sitting in someone backyard or behind a shop somewhere in the USA

Please let me know and thanks

I saw one at Givens Hot Springs in Idaho last January (near Marsing). I'd never seen one and I was blown away by the level of detail.

(edit - it was a nicely restored runner, just enough restoration, plenty of patina. It was blue like the picture.)

The USAF used an extended version of the 319 in the 80's & 90's on bases all over Germany. Had rides on them many times. As best I can remember they were all diesel & had engine brakes. I love them .......Best of luck!

Here is a camper version for sale or trade..

TheSamba.com :: VW Classifieds - Mercedes 4L 4Cyl Diesel RV 608d Camper Very Rare
Quote:
Mercedes 4L 4Cyl Diesel RV 608d Camper Very Rare Price: Your 23 Window
I'm interested in a trade only. Not for sale.

This is one of less than 10 608d's, probably one of the only Campers in the United States. These are popular for transporting in Europe and have proven themselves. This is a million mile engine with 100k on it. Drives fantastic. Shifts perfectly. Engine, transmission, etc. are in great condition.

This rig has two 80 gallon fuel tanks, 2 30 gallon, or so, propane tanks, is 2wd, dually rear end, cb, air horn, VW factory radio, water tanks, generator, etc. 14mpg estimated with 160 gallon reserve = a long distance, you're sleeping before refueling Very Veggie fuel capable

I am looking to trade for an Original restorable 23 window, in comparable condition.
I may be lured by an early 60's So23 camper.

It will need a little work to be road trip worthy, I would like to replace hoses, etc. But this is an honest machine. No rust other than the passenger door bottom, due to a bad window seal and storage water shed on that door for years, which I will be repairing. This is an Arizona Bus and will be beautiful decorated like an early Westfalia, which is where I am going with it.

This guy needs a little work but is mostly original. I would like the same in a 23 window.
Thanks,
Christopher

I sold a 23 window to a friend for $600 in '72. Sure wish I'd known where those were headed.

There was a guy in Sacramento that I stumbled across while chasing yard sales that had two of the roof-window versions. He was in his 40's at the time and lived with his mom. I remember there being some VW parts on it, like the headlights.

Here's one in west viriginia for $1000.00
mercedes English D309 motor home
mercedes English D309 motor home - $1000 (Berkeley springs WV)
1959 English drive(steering wheel on the right side) D309 motor home 4 cyl. diesel engine that has 15,000 original miles on it but needs water pump from setting and has a 4 speed transmission. One of only 200 D309s imported to USA (statement found on mercedezes web site) needs cosmetic restoration inside and out but runs it has 3 way frig, overhead a/c,stove and oven all worked last fall , have not tested this summer. sleeps 4 adults and has bathroom with shower sink and toilet and power inverter. it drove like a dream when last used but is a little slow for the highway speeds of today it hasn't been on road for 20yrs... would be a great restoration piece . I have seen only 1 other in 30 years and that one was English drive also and it was on skyline drive south of Front Royal VA and it was pulling a compact car. amazing! title has been lost in moving by last owner will give bill of sale, would be easy to get a title due to being a antique vehicle. would be a great addition to any collection or use it for r&r and conversation $1,000 o.b.o price was reduced from 2500.00 sold as is with bill of sale. must sell asap can deliver for 2.00 a mile after payment is made

Gulfstream Restaurant in Newport Beach had that exact model for years. Don't know if they still do, but it was always on the corner of MacArthur and PCH.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I know this thread is old as dirt but I just came across it. I'm a old user from back in the mercedesshop.com days and never even noticed this "new" area. Anyhow, to shed a little bit of light on this if anyone happens to encounter it in the future or any of you guys are actually still interested. There are like 27 of these known to exist in the US. Not all of them are the omnibus with all the sweet windows. Mine is :-) .. Some are more of the panel van variety or fire truck or ambulance. We had a Yahoo group that was obviously very inactive as we only have 13 members. There is a pretty large member group in germany and they have yearly rallies and it makes me crazy jealous. Check this guy out. MB 319 He is the worldwide authority on these puppies. Hit me up if you want to chat more about them. Adios, Opossum

Dang that's cool! My wife and I have pondered a Vanagon for an extended cross country trip someday, but that would be so much more retro-cool.....

Here's the pictures I have of the local 319; it's a quasi camper, with a bed in the back.

Nice, Widebody911!

Is that the one that has floated around the Santa Cruz area for a while? If so, I wonder if it still has the Chevy straight 6 in it. I will post pics of mine when I pull it out of storage.
