Netflix - A new device is using your account
 

In the past 3 or 4 days I've received 4 emails from Netflix stating that a new device has been detected using my account. They claim the users are in Indonesia and/or Argentina. They appear to be authentic Netflix emails. The suggestion is to change my password. When I click on the change password link it brings up a pretty official looking Netflix page, but it doesn't ask for my old password, just wants me to enter a new one twice.

My first thought was that Netflix was just trying to get users to change their passwords to help eliminate friends and family users, but now I'm not sure. I think I'll just log into my account and change my password, not using the email link.

Anyone else seeing any similar activity?

I had that happen. Don't use the link. Go on Netflix directly and change the password.

Check your account settings to see what the recovery email address is before saving, make sure its yours.

Whats the link they sent?

I would post it, but the Netflix page that comes up has my email address already populated in the email field.

If you're getting emails like this from anyone, never click the link in the email unless you are absolutely positive that the email and link are authentic. Scammers can make emails and links look pretty authentic. Instead, go to the website directly. Once you've logged into netflix.com, then in the top right is your profile. Click and go to "account". Under account, go to "Security & Privacy" where you can see info about what devices are using your account.

+1 on not using the email link. If you are familiar with opening email headers you can see the true sender.

I get them all the time that are from what is supposed to be be internet provider. We have several email addresses, and the crooks send email that looks legit saying we have to make a change, and provide a handy link.

I never use the link, just log into the account like usual, and check it out. All is still fine.
It is just a phishing scam.

NF cracked down on account sharing w/i the last week or so. I was left a nice big screen TV by the previous home owner that NF was left loaded on getting free service for 3.5 years until last week. A prompt came up about verifying your account having a phone number and email partially redacted to be sent to you to confirm the user.

my free days of netflix ended, but I did have them send the old owner a text to verify me...

Never, ever, under any circumstances, in a million years, do you ever, click a link supplied in an email.

There will be a lot of Netflix based phising exploits because everyone is expecting to get the sharing email.

Long ago i felt like netflix treated me poorly so i swore never would they get another penny from me.

Unless it's from your bank. Then by all means please provide all account information to verify "your status to continue accessing your own money". Jump in that pit. Just to be safe.

The reality is that the banks cover up loss from scanners every day.
They make so much money off of total CC exchanges they couldn't care less.

Just keep any connected accounts to a minimal with acceptable loss.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
