Start at the source. What kind of soaps in she using to wash her hands/shower? Try a pure soap like Ivory. Does you water have high chlorine content? Do you have a decent humidity in the house?
During the winter here in Columbus, they crank up the chemicals in the water during the winter, and my skin drys out terribly. Nothing that lotion can't fix, but it pretty dramatic when they make the change. Try Corn Huskers lotion. |

Eulactol heel balm for feet but works on all skin is amazing. I use it for worn out cracked skin on fingers and I can't believe how well it works.

Subscribed. Currently using Aveeno, but I've tried myriad concoctions. Bag balm, corn huskers, Bee balm, yadda yadda yadda ad infinitum..... I'll put lotion on at night under thin cotton gloves while I sleep when it reaches crisis stage....(hey, ladies!!!)
What ACTUALLY provides most relief is to use liquid band aid on the cracks. Not optimal, but it curbs the pain....

Instead of cotton gloves...buy a pair of kid/goat skin gloves. The natural lanolin in them keeps the skin from cracking.

If she does not properly hydrate it can contribute to dry skin.

Some good info here so far.
She's probably already tried this but this is what I have used in the past that worked: ![]()

This !! However this must be a new people oriented Bag Balm. I just have the kind dairy farmers use to put on chapped cows' udders. It's great for feet, hands, lips, anyplace you need to treat - even your bunghole if you need that sort of thing. Corn Husker's lotion is good too.

I buy XBC emollient from a pound store( that's a dollar store with added European inflation). Made in China to a UK formulation(unadulterated I hope), comes in a half kilo tub.
And it works brilliantly.

Use CeraVu. Recommended by my dermatologist.

Try using hypoallergenic hand soap, solid or liquid. The liquid type is the light foamy liquid one. Wear gloves when washing dishes. If possible see a dermatologist to see if she has a skin condition called Eczema. There are so many lotions out there, including Eczema lotion, that it’s hard to know which one works for you and which doesn’t.

Actually it's called CeraVe - comes in different 'forms'. Best is the cream from the jar. Nothing better over-the-counter. Also I believe they make a 'severe' formula for situations like hers. I've tried everything and that works.
If that fails to give relief, she should visit a doctor for further diagnosis. I've struggled with this on and off in recent years and my situation was a reoccurring bacterial infection. The end result looked terrible and painful - the cause was not just dry skin but a combination of environmental, stress and exposure to certain things that I could not tolerate anymore. Funny that my Doc said that it was common that as people age into their 50's - skin conditions of their hands - back and palms are more likely.

Burts Bees products are really good for dry winter skin. Try the cuticle cream.

Emollient, also vitamin E supplements, flaxseed oil capsules should be helpful.

Goop Works!
Slather it on, leave it there for 20 minutes. Make sure you rub it in deep around the nails. (^GREEN^) |
