Bye-bye Consumer Cellular .... hello T-Mobile!
I've been with Consumer Cellular for years .... love their approach, plans, pricing, customer support, etc. but they have lost me forever.
As posted on many threads, one's cell phone service/coverage varies and it depends on your specific location. For me, at my house, Verizon and AT&T have always been lacking during peak times, and I've used them all over three decades.... both personal and work phones. My issues disappeared when I replaced my Consumer Cellular default AT&T SIM card with a T-Mobile SIM a few years ago, all my issues disappeared. Well .... I got a new cell phone about 6 months ago .... didn't realize that I would lose the T-Mobile SIM option (Consumer Cellular now ONLY offers AT&T), and my phone service has sucked... took me a bit to realize why. So tomorrow I will be receiving a T-Mobile SIM directly from T-M ..... my rant is now complete .... except that I could barely carry on a conversation with both Consumer Cellular and T-Mobile support to pull this off..... ".... Can you hear me now?" NOPE! I felt sorry for the CC rep ..... she experienced first hand why I was leaving them ... nothing she could do to help me tho' :D |
I have had T-Mobile 5g internet for 3 months and no complaints so far. They seem to be easy to deal with.

Went from Verizon to visible. $100 to $60. Same service.

I'll be paying 5 bucks more per month ($40 .... unlimited minutes/data) guaranteed for life, but being able to actually carry on a phone conversation makes it seem worth it ;)

T Mobile is ghetto. At least they used to be. Maybe it’s time to check out their coverage and rates again. I’d look into T Mobile before I talk to another ATT cellular sales rep.

^^^^ My experience with them yesterday was great.... my first, although I've been happy with their actual cell phone service for years (via Consumer Cellular). I just know from first hand experience that the other two options, Verizon and AT&T have totally sucked.

I think we've been on T-mobile in one fashion or another for >20 years. We had it before it was T-mobile as Aerial. Then I gave my wife my number when a job got me a work cell phone. She's had it under her name since then which is 18years, I think. (they thank you for being a customer for so long when/if you call in). The service has always been good anyplace that we lived and good enough any place that we've visited. There was a period where customer service, if you had to call them, was pretty moderate because it was outsourced overseas and they were never really able to help. If you said "I want to cancel my service" they'd transfer you to the customer retention folks who were in the US, and they always got you fixed up. Now, for the past 2-3 years at least, I almost always get a native English speaker in the US, and I almost always get great service.
We've been using T-mobile for home internet for 2.5 years now. For the first 1.5 years, it was via a commercial/enterprise device with a T-mobile SIM, and that worked really well. About a year ago, T-mobile officially rolled out Home Internet to our location. At the same time, they upgraded the local tower to 5G and when they did, our commercial device started disconnecting and being a bit of a pain, so I ordered the T-mobile Home Internet and their device. It's been really good. We're very near I-10, and practically in the middle of 2 towers so our connectivity is just barely there, but if one tower has an issue, the other tower is a good backup. At peak times speedtest will show us as 230-260mb down, which is more than enough. Sometimes our upload is only 1-2 mb which kind of sucks. It's funny, on one tower (east of us), I'll get 20-40mb down and 5-15mb up. On the other tower (west of us) I get 70-270mb down and 1-5mb down. We usually use the tower with the high download speeds. |
We were on AT&T for at least 10 years and switch to Verizon for "better coverage". What a bust. They may have coverage, but with one bar, I can't text, email or surf the Internet.
We should look at what else has better coverage. |

Whether Tracfone, Consumer Cellular, or another .... there are only 3 cell phone networks which everyone uses.... Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Find the one that sucks the least bigly for you...

We had been on Sprint/T-Mobile forever, until we recently switched to Spectrum to save the big bucks. So far its good enough.
