1985 Contemporary Stratocaster

Man I scored one of these in what looks and feels to be nearly unplayed condition. These are AMAZING interments. Anyone who likes playing a Strat needs one of these in their collection. I feel like these strats will be the next to go up significantly in value as well as they are mid 80s fender and extremely well made.

Anyhow here are some pics of this circa 1985 Factory Hot Rod!

1985 Contemporary Stratocaster

The Telecaster…

Andy Summers tribute “The Police” it has a built in preamp that gives it an insane amount of distortion. It sounds like no other telecaster out there. The guitar was used on most all the Police albums and songs like king of pain, Roxanne, walking on the moon, every breath you take.

Andy bought this guitar already modded back in the early 70s.

Andy actually still prefers to play strats however the unique sound of this telecaster makes it a amazing guitar for recording but hard to live with performing or gigging…

Interesting. Not really my style but I can appreciate it. Looks like tight grain rosewood fingerboard and the gloss black neck is interesting for a strat. Neck and fingerboard looks similar to my 1990 PRS.

Actually reminds me of Bob Weir’s Blackknife “pepto” he played in the 80s.

What’s up with the 2 extra switches and 1 extra knob on the Tele ?

Edit - never mind. I see your above explanation

Not really sure there is not much info on the fender forum on these. I posted here hoping to find out more.
These were obscure and I don’t believe many could have been made.

It's jack access.

Common on Gibsons.

Strats have face mounted jacks with a jack plate that covers a hole large enough to accommodate the jack.

Tele's have side mounted jacks but again with a jack plate covering a larger hole to pull the jack thru.

This thing has a barrel jack with a collar which means the jack doesn't fit thru the hole / is held in place from the backside.

Some companies handle it with a large pick guard so you can access it from the face. Pick guard here is not big enough for that.

Conclusion, jack and associated wiring access.

I am a Guitar nut job been playing at it for about forty years. I say playing at it because I never made money with it.
Anyway lets just say the guys online obsess over guitars like we do over a 911 "nice car but has the wrong year headlight rings."

Post a picture of a Les Paul - " the binding is 1/16th off."
Post a Stratocaster "nice but wrong tuning pegs."

Big, no huge debate over the Stratocaster as to which are the best.

Pre 1970 American seem to be #1
Then it comes to Japan vs Mexico.
I can't afford American so I got a henco n Mexico.

The best Strat I ever played was made in Japan.

Party on bros.

Almost 40 years here too

There are few players that can play anywhere near as good as Jack Pearson and one of his favorite guitars to play is a cheapo Mexican or squire strat. Wish I had that attitude as ide be about 50 grand richer
