I got my side hustle off the ground !

I just did my first paid tow tonight ! I have had 2 other tow trucks in the past, but they were more or less lot trucks, and for moving my own junk around .
It took some legwork to get a truck, make it legal, get plates, and pay the insurance man $$$.
Im in pretty deep now, but made my first 150 tonight , easiest buck and half I ever made .
I drag my 6 year old with me everywhere I go ..
I have spent a lifetime watching the tow truck drop off vehicles in my lot ,it was only natural for me to salivate over some of the sweet KW and Peterbuilt medium duty trucks that come in and out every day
I am pretty sure this is how I will do a partial retirement . I have stood on a concrete slab for 30+ years hustling out car repairs . I think I am nearing the end of that journey , at least in the capacity that I have been doing it
The benz was paid, I hauled my old SC home last week for my test tow .

There have been times, where I thought about closing and just getting a gravy state job, but at this point, I am running with the ball right up till lunchbreak on the day of my death . Wish me luck

Best of luck with it. Tow truck drivers have bailed me out many a time. Big fan.

Cool, good luck. Since you've got a flatbed rather than a tow truck, you should (if you're interested) hook up with the local Porsche and Bimmer clubs for towing their cars. "I've got a Porsche 911. I'll take care of your baby like it was my own."

Congrats!
If it feels good - that’s a great start.
Wishing you the best in new venture.
Wish I ahead the rocks to take a plunge.

This is cool!

Congrats! It’s nice to know another person that cares about cars is out there doing this.

Wow - nice, Fred!

I've always been impressed by the degree of your hustle, I must say, very inspirational. I thank you for that, Fred. Seriously.

I love that you included that pic of your son - ha - time of your life, kid! :)

I think you have a fantastic plan going forward. Best wishes and if I can do anything for you - anything at all - love ya brother! :)

Sweet shades dude

You can be the owner of the shop and the tow truck driver, hire a wrench to do the walking around on cement all day. Have shades riding shot gun all summer, go to the park between rescuing people with broken down cars

You should quit that mechanic stuff and hang out with him

You look younger than I expected Fred. But excellent side hustle.

I thought that was the owner of the broken down Porsche.

That's a good sized truck. Not too small or big. :)

When life serves you lemons ... buy a tow truck!

That's awesome Fred .... best to you moving onward and that little shotgun rider is cool ....

Just like his dad :)

Awesome Fred you deserve a sit down job, looking out the window

I'm sure you'll never not have work so don't expect early retirement just yet

Eric 951 06-15-2023 02:25 AM

Congrats Fred! It's awesome having your son ride shotgun.

unclebilly 06-15-2023 02:26 AM

Fred… one of the hardest working guys on Pelican.

My dad bought a tow truck when I was 18 or so… it was an older truck with a Holmes 440 wrecker on the back (not wheel lift and not a deck truck). We used it for our personal stuff (we were rebuilding cars at the time). It was a ton of work.

Congrats to you. Enjoy it.

Nice truck Fred. Best of luck with it.
Next thing you know you'll have have one of these in the fleet

I talked with the flatbed driver when he picked up my 928 last fall to go into storage, he loves the work, been doing it for 20+ years and mostly does exotics now. Good luck Fred, sounds like a great retirement!

We used to call them part time jobs.

Steve Carlton 06-15-2023 05:34 AM

Can I borrow the truck for a couple of hours on Sunday?
