Neil Young discussion
What's your favorite songs of his? My list is long, but at the top I'd put "Harvest Moon." I like what he does with an acoustic guitar and his plaintive vocals. I always liked Neil Young - Heart of Gold, a 2006 movie directed by Jonathan Demme. I went out to see Harvest Time, a 2022 movie about the making of the classic Harvest album, using original film taken at the time. The movie was good, but not great. It was interesting to see him and his friends back in '71-72.
https://www.neilyoungharvesttime.com/ Looking for other movies, there were two more, including Neil Young Journeys, from 2011, also directed by Jonathan Demme. Not as good as Neil Young - Heart of Gold, but an interesting documentary about his solo tour promoting his Le Noise album. There's several great songs on there, but for me, this might be his most haunting song (from the Le Noise album and Journeys movie): I'd love to discuss more about Neil without getting political and winding up in PARF. Hopefully that's possible.

I listened to a lot of Neil back in the day and still enjoy his music.
Someone already posted up Helpless, it is one of my faves. I saw the thread title and thought oh ****, Neil died? Whew.... Some of my friends absolutely couldn't stand Neil when we were brand new drivers. I was still friends with them anyway.

I actually used one of his songs from the "After The Gold Rush" album as the soundtrack for this video I made of my two Blue Heelers, Winkipop and Billabong, back in 2011......

One of my top favorites as well. Really shows off how great a banjo can be!
I think I like this cover better than the original, which is saying a lot:

Just a bit of trivia for Neil Young fans.
Neil Young made a movie in the early 70s loosely based on the album Journey through the Past. A must see if you are a fan of Neil Young. Years ago the movie was on you tube, not sure if it still is. |

Hey Hey My My or My My Hey Hey. There are many more.
Beside his songs, he's too caught up in politics. It is no longer 1969. Let it go and just play good music. I think the cause is over long ago. His son Zeke was one of my woodshop student though I love to have met Neil in person during a parent's conference but I didn't think he would show because he lived with his mother in the neighborhood. I think he went on to the Bridge School. Nice, down to earth kid actually. Last edited by look 171; 12-25-2022 at 05:10 PM.. |

Saw him a few years ago at the outlaw music festival with Willie Nelson kids. Promise of the Real. While I have been a fan for a long time my Wife never was until she saw him live. What a show!

I was watching Journey Through The Past on Neil's archive site and a video of Buffalo Springfield singing "For What It's Worth" was playing. It was performed on The Smothers Brothers Show in 1967 and Tommy was clowning around on the side. Just as Stills was singing "there's a man with a gun over there," he looked over and saw this. Funny!

I was driving home tonight, and Cowboy Junkies was playing "Don't Let it Bring You Down" on the stereo. And then this thread pops up! One of my favorites. Seen him many, many times live.
He has too many songs I like to have a favorite, here's a couple off the top of my head I probably know by heart. Powderfinger Mansion on the Hill Birds Southern Man Out on the Weekend Ten Men Workin' Love and only Love A Man Needs A Maid Cortez The Killer Old Laughing Lady Campaigner
