How is the best way to dispose of a very used mattress?

...in a way that would be untraceable if you know what I mean.
Asking for a friend. The same one as earlier thread

Thanks and Cheers,
Bob

My city has bulk trash pickup twice a year. I would keep it in the back and put it on the curb the Sunday of the week when they pick it up along with all the tree branches and other junk I don't want.

Late 90s maybe... I cut up a double bed mattress with scissors, razor knife and angle grinder, . It took me about an hour to do so. As always, Please be careful if you decide to go this way.

Everything went into the recycling bin (two pickups).

Live dangerously, remove the tag.

The bulk truck comes down my street weekly....

Or toss it on the car roof .... right hand on the steering wheel .... left out the window holding the mattress ... go for a drive ... REMOVE both tags!

Don't even need a passenger holding down the other side .... it rarely helps :)

Mattress store (Furniture Row) has dumpster behind the building near the loading dock just for mattresses

I had bedbugs and torched mine in the firepit.
I do not suggest this!

Start cutting it up. Throw away a small piece each week...
It will eventually be gone.
I have no idea how you could possibly cut a mattress up though!

When I did get a new mattress, the local charity did come and take mine, but they wouldn't take without a frame so I gave them that also... Well worn, probably won't work..

I wasn't sure how to broach the topic, but it looks like it starred in a crime scene. I'll suggest he dump a lot of muriatic acid or bleach on it, let it dry and rent a truck...not using mine

I've done that before.

I ended up using some twine and folded it over a few times, then dropped it off at a scrap place on the way across town one day. I only used this method, as I'm a stark environmentalist and fully believe in recycling. And i didn't have a truck then.

Out here in madison, the college kids dump them on the curb in front of their rentals.

No, I have no idea what you mean. You might as well not said that. Maybe Guido has a truck....

stevej37 06-19-2023 12:57 PM

Steve Carlton 06-19-2023 01:05 PM

Aren't there guys on craigslist or nextdoor that can haul it away for $30-50? How hard can this be?

stevej37 06-19-2023 01:08 PM

^^^ Yes...but they might not be able to keep their mouths shut. :)

That's technically dumping and illegal in most places.

The store manager told me to put one there when I asked him.

Excellent... I am also a "stark environmentalist".

Arizona_928 06-19-2023 02:03 PM

Ah. Yes. Asking beforehand is the way to do it

ckcarr 06-19-2023 02:05 PM

Right next to the "Free Couches!"
