What racing do you like best?

'Splain why if you wish:

Racing stripes, landing strips and Hitler mustaches.

Overall, I like F1 the best from that list. However, my favorite racing is Top Fuel and Funny Car racing. In spite of that, I just cannot choose drag racing, overall, over F1. Outside of those two classes, I find modern drag racing beyond boring. Horribly contrived nonsense, with all of their "index" classes. Just no interest in that.

You left out motorcycle racing of any kind. Perhaps that was intentional, and you wanted to narrow this to four wheeled racing only. Be that as it may (and since it just concluded), I have to say that my all-time favorite race is the Isle of Man TT, and my all-time favorite form of motor racing is the Irish Open Road Series, on which the TT is only one stop.

Gotta be F1, or better yet, a blend of F1 and Indycar. I really can't get excited about just going in a straight line, or around in circles. Road courses are where it is at. You have straightaways, chicanes, S turns... If F1 got rid of DRS and swapped in Push to Pass, it would be perfect..

Not on Oahu since 2006. I used to run the BMW CCA HPDE school.

I like classic car racing. I like seeing a Morris Mini up against a Mustang. A load of old Alfas, MGs, Austin Healeys. Oh, and the odd Porsche thrown into the mix.

Lots of passing with the cars having different cornering abilities and others having down the line speed.

No prep / illegal street racing. Betting money, grudge matches, sometimes fights break out. Winner takes all. Nothing like it.

otto_kretschmer 06-20-2023 12:56 AM

I see no motorcycle option

heart. why watch when you can be.

Where is Rally / WRC?

berettafan 06-20-2023 03:34 AM

From that list F1.

But overall -Sports car. Rolex series was great fun to watch and I managed to get to a race in person. So cool wandering through the pits. Honestly watching in car from spec series like miata or spec 3 is better than just about any broadcast racing.

Old rally footage is pretty fun to check out as well. Longhoods and Saabs and Escorts blasting through the dirt with spectators inches away!

IMSA/WEC
Indycar
F1
Rally

Have not tried it yet, but I am thinking dirt track is looking pretty good.

I need to buy a beater to turn into a rally car, or even better, get carts for the grandkids. They like my brother in law's yard cart

In it's lower forms like the street stock class I raced, it is relatively inexpensive. It was our tracks largest class with sometimes 60 cars showing up. IMO it is less dependant on the amount of money spent on the car than many other forms of auto racing. It takes some skill to figure out and master the track surface both in car setup and driving ability on any given night.

Amateur MX racing is probably my favorite form of racing as it is nearly 100% dependant on the rider's skills and ability to ride close to the edge.

I don't care for most large professional car racing series because while the drivers must have talent, typically only the biggest teams with biggest pocket books are the ones who can afford to build winning machines. The average person can't just decide to build or buy an F1 car and go racing for a year or two... I like technology and fast cars, but I just can't get too excited about following a motosport that participation in is unobtanium for most.

JackDidley 06-20-2023 05:17 AM

On TV I like NASCAR. To actually participate, drag racing. Its not just the racing. It is always a social event at the track. Most of my 40+ year friends, I met drag racing.

911 Rod 06-20-2023 05:38 AM

I can honestly say I have spent more time on the track than watching racing.

Captain Ahab Jr 06-20-2023 06:52 AM

The racing I like the best is the racing where I'm helping teams and drivers win

Really linking F1 at the moment but in the past I've liked other racing too
