Indoor Camera?

Looking to get a camera or two to place inside of my elderly parents home so I can check on them if they don't answer the phone etc.. They refuse to go to assisted living and we are worried that one might fall etc..They are not very good with their cell phone.. (sometimes it can be 3-4 days before they answer which drives us nuts!)

It would have to be something that doesn't require charging/changing of the batteries. The main problem i see offhand, is the best place to put it has no outlets nearby and dont really want to run an extension cord down the hall. lol. Suggestions?

Same issues with my wife's dad. Can't reliably dial or answer a phone anymore. 93yo

We used an amazon/alexa device for my him. Can talk to him through it, and listen in. Called "drop-in" He can call my wife through Alexa by saying "Alexa call (name)"

Camera needs power. If you can run ethernet cable you can do POE.
We use reolink cameras (E1) for the same purpose, but they plug in.

I also set up an 'emergency button' for him with a wifi alarm system. It is set to call my wife if he presses the panic button. Used this one: Amazon Alarm

Eufy makes some great ones (Indoor cam pan and tilt w/2k resolution) that are steerable and will track motion and sound. I have a few at houses when we are not there. No subscription. You put your own micro SD card in. You can converse through these as well. One for $55 or 2 for $99. Great video resolution.

I have Ring with a $40 annual subscription or something. Doorbell + Indoor. Seems to work ok. We check it when we're away.

WiFi camera systems get disconnected, unplugged, lose signal - not often but if you need it to operate reliably for many months or years without intervention, probably need to do a lot of research.

I use Blink which is decently reliable and wireless, but the AA batteries need to be changed every six months or so.

Light bulb camera.

Screws into any standard bulb socket.

They come in live streaming to mobile device and SD card options.

An top down view may be best in this situation.

If you leave the cameras turned off and only check them manually you should get best possible battery life. Helpful with how expensive the recommended batteries are! BTW SAMS Club has the best price i've seen on those batts.

The best way to get around the battery/wifi problem would be POE which will require a POE switch, and a cable to anywhere that you want to put a camera. But it will negate battery problems and wifi problems.

My brothers and I just struggled with this...Our Mother was in a home as Independent Living, basically the facility was totally hands off, In the last few months she has declined, and is now in Memory care...

Anyway my brothers and I discussed installing a cam to monitor Mom. Ultimately we decided not to.. we decided to respect her dignity and privacy...

Decisions like these are incredibly stressful..

There are watches you can get that have an accelerometer in them, so if a fall happens, the watch tells the phone to call the son or daughter, whatever. Some will monitor vitals and send them to a phone. I think my brother got one that was a garmin

Apple watch and iPhone have fall alert.

Apparently it causes issues for EMS at concerts, has trouble telling the difference between moshing and falling.

Here’s your watch grandma, but remember to take it off when you’re moshing at the Slayer concert.

I second Eufy, I’m impressed w/ the video and audio quality.
