Well, it’s been too quiet…
I have been pretty much inconsolable since my 1.5 year old puppy Tilly died.
I happened upon an 8 month old puppy at a rescue in Texas. See was delivered to a foster in Rochester yesterday around noon. They gave me a call. My wife and I and our 11 month old puppy were already in the car. So we went to meet her. I wasn’t sure at first, but she was so endearing that I took a chance. She is fantastic! I am very happy with her ! She has a great personality and is very calm and affectionate. She slept at my wife’s feet all night and woke her once to go out. She loves her brother Boomer. They play so nice together. I still have pangs for my Tilly, but she is easing the pain admirably. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Skytrooper; 06-25-2023 at 11:26 AM.. Reason: Pics didn’t come through |

We named her Lilly Belle, Lilly for short. The story behind her name is when our daughter heard about Tilly passing. She loved Tilly, like all that met her. Anyway she sent us a floral arrangement. It was all lilies. Her card was titled “ Tilly’s Lilies”. When my eyes stopped leaking, I thought Lilly would be a pretty girl dog name. By calling her Lilly Belle, we don’t accidentally call her Tilly.

Kudos! Life goes on. There’s no award for suffering. Looks like you rescued each other. Congrats.

Yay! Very glad you did this, and that you find Lilly so pleasing. After your initial thread, I got to thinking and just felt really sad for you. What a gut punch you had.
![]() A dear friend of mine spent many years raising service puppies with his wife. They get the dog at about 8 weeks and the dog leaves after about a year. They train and evaluate, and the dog then goes on to Guide Dog College or, alternatively, gets "career changed" to a nice family. I once asked him how painful it must be to let go of a puppy that has been a family member for a year. He said he misses them but when they say goodbye to one puppy, they are holding the new 8-month-old in their arms. That certainly takes much of the sting out. I hope Lilly does this for you, Sir.

Thanks, Matt - that's wonderful backstory on her naming and a real nice tribute to both Tilly and your daughter.
Well done sir! ![]()

She had that perfect energy which can not be duplicated. A Life cut short. Too short.
She is still around somewhere with you. Has to be. Conservation of energy and matter.

It's hard to find a smarter,
more loyal and loving dog than a Shepard. Their only fault is that some of them can be over-protective to a fault. having said that, I love that breed. |
