I'm Angry Beyond Words

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687995376.jpg

I'm still shaking with anger... Just back from the vet. Our new little sweetheart, Tillamook ("Tilly" to her friends, which is everyone, on the right, with her pal Ed on the left) hasn't been herself since last night. Usually just bubbling over with enthusiasm for anything and everything, mainly just life in general, she had become sullen, head hanging, no energy. Totally listless, disinterested in doing anything at all.

We were worried sick, so we took her to the vet. You'll never believe what the diagnosis was - she's stoned. On pot. WTF, over???!!! My wife and I do not imbibe. Our vet, who has now seen three generations of our dogs, knows us well enough to have a very frank conversation about this with us, and trusts us when we tell her we do not. So how on God's green Earth did she get stoned?

Our vet had nothing but bad news regarding this. You see, this has turned into a "thing" - scheisskopfs feeding "edibles" - essentially pot laced "gummy bears" or something - to dogs. Like walking through the neighborhood and tossing them over our fence. Because they think it's funny, or cute, or whatever farked up reasoning lies behind this. What kind of a cretin does this sort of thing? To an innocent animal? I'm at a loss.

I will say this, even though we all know better than to do this on a public forum - if I catch this guy, I will dramatically change the course of his life going forward. Words cannot express how angry I am right now.

Thank goodness it was pot and not chocolate bars or something worse. I'd be pissed too, but it could be a lot worse.

Yeah, I don't get the whole stoner thing. I'm sure there are folks that use for good, valid reasons, and I'm sure that there are folks that like to get stoned but are responsible and wouldn't consider something like this. But I've seen videos and heard of folks that got dogs drunk and stoned, and they laugh and think it's funny. WTF?!

How was the vet able to diagnose THC? Blood test?

You can catch the person, you just need a teenager involved with local social media. People like that can't keep their misdeeds to themselves.

Jeff Higgins 06-28-2023 04:11 PM

The vet told us that there are actually serious health issues with pot and dogs. They don't metabolize it in the same way we do. It can seriously mess them up, for good. Not healthy at all.

Yup, blood test. Same one the cops would give to a stoned driver.

She only ordered the test as confirmation. I had no idea, but apparently Tilly (not sure if this is breed specific) has a "second eyelid", which was somewhat closed in what the vet described as a "sure indicator" of what was happening. She said that granted, it could be any sedative, so she wanted to narrow it down.

I should ask the kids (not really "kids", in their 30's) to check on social media. Neither one is active, but both have accounts on pretty much everything. Good idea - thanks. Because, well, you're absolutely right - this class of moron just cannot seem to keep their mouths shut (or thumbs still) after their various misdeeds.

Mr Jeff... I feel your pain and anger but it could have been a whole lot worse (I will not elaborate beyond that).

All the best and give them both a hug from me.

Zeke 06-28-2023 04:25 PM

I did a quick read and you're right about the toxicity. I did not know this so your post is sort of a public service bulletin. Keeping the dog hydrated and calm seems all you can do so keep yourself calm for the time being. You know how animals pick up on our signs.

don't know your neighborhood but seems that teens like this would be easy to ID.

greglepore 06-28-2023 04:27 PM

I grow and imbibe, and I'd still break their legs.
Sorry Jeff...

flatbutt 06-28-2023 04:31 PM

That sux Jeff. Sorry man.

Tobra 06-28-2023 04:31 PM

Tiktok challenge? Apparently that was the deal with recent broken window on wife's rig. I might have to go buy a bag of lime if I caught someone doing that.

Chocaholic 06-28-2023 04:33 PM

Is pot now cheap enough to just toss it over the fence for a chuckle? Just makes no sense. What’s the point in tossing it over the fence so that maybe a dog will eat it. I guess it’s right up there with eating Tide-pods.

The world is getting dummer! Maybe a couple outdoor cams?

That sucks. Hopefully, your pup recovers fully.

Superman 06-28-2023 04:44 PM

Here's hoping for a full recovery. Please keep us posted..

I don't have to teach you how to perform a cause analysis but..... I think your place is backed up to a greenbelt and your fence is not on the sidewalk. Throwing distance from the sidewalk though. Still, I wonder about your two next door neighbors.

My security cameras are triggered by either motion or sound. When something happens, I can watch it. Wanna borrow it?

Man that's horrible, I'm sorry. I know kids and teens can be terrible but I'll never understand hurting a pet. I hope she gets better soon.

pwd72s 06-28-2023 05:24 PM

To my mind, that is dog poisoning...and the penalty should be the same.

Some light chicken broth might speed up that process. Something they can't resist.

Never heard about edibles being toxic to dogs, I have actually no clue what they are made of, but the way things are going...
Back in HS a friends seriously smart ninja dog would go up to him asking to get smoke blown in it's face.

This is completely different. More of an (un?)intentional poisoning. Yeah I'd be pissed.

LEAKYSEALS951 06-28-2023 05:32 PM

If true, there must be a nearby sidewalk/path where they throw the edibles from.
Get a video camera. Catch them in the act.

JavaBrewer 06-28-2023 05:37 PM

Horrible. Hoping for a full recovery.

I'm not excusing them, but I'm sure that whoever did it, didn't think that it was "poisoning" or even harmful. Most folks think that pot is harmless, and it may be relatively harmless in the grand scheme of things for people, but the geniuses that did this would never think that "hey, the effects on a different species might be different."

All that really does is talk about intent. I'm sure whoever did it didn't intend to hurt the dog. Again, that doesn't excuse their action. Drunk drivers don't intend to kill people when they get behind the wheel, but they still need to be held accountable.
