Heading to Lima Peru for a few weeks. What to do?

I'm going to Lima for a few weeks starting on the 8th. Any suggestions?

Get a rent a car and drive Carrera Panamericana

In the mid 20's I drove from Lima to Nazca...

Peru is rough around the edges... but overall I had a good time there..

Will look forward to pictures of you with lovely exotic shapely young women in various locations.

Apparently any advice we could give isn’t as good as the “sights” you seem to find on your own!

without doubt, a Lima taxi ride/ car service was the most exiting ride ever. they have 4 lane roads over there that the drivers look and and they go into corners 8-wide..horns blaring. I think I learned how to cringe, while saying, "we are not gonna fit" in Spanish instantaneously.

having said that.. they have a fast food sandwich chain that is awesome. I think it is called LA Lucha or something. salty and delicious.

oh, of all airports ever. Lima is the most insane thing ever. nobody gives an eff about standing in line. it is a full contact sport airport. very fun.

and I ate a crapload of Ceviche..Tigre de Leche!!

Beautiful.

When I was in Panama....I ate Ceviche almost every day.
Dirt cheap and delicious.

And the taxis are the same there as Lima.

Be sure to ask where to get some Lima beans, and have them for a meal! ;)

Mrs. Lee and I went last November. Lima is not real exciting, but it was just the starting point of our travels in Peru. Kind of reminds me of inner Mexico without the squalor and riff raff. You'll eat well and it's affordable. Uber is pretty cheap and convenient there. Beaches are nice. But we all know the real attractions there are Machu Picchu, Nazca Lines, Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, etc. We had some real adventures outside of Lima.

Wear support stockings, take a baby aspirin every day and drink 50% more water than you normally would. Maybe take along some antibiotics, just in case

Why the stockings?

Traveling like that you want to do all that stuff to reduce your chances of pulmonary embolism

It's not that long a flight. Five hours due south from MIA.

I caught a stomach bug on the last night there and it made the next day and flight home pretty tough. Mrs. Lee and I shared the same plate full of sushi, but she was fine. So that wasn't it. But man, I was hotel room-bound the whole next day and then thank God for the airport lounge. They say it's fine to brush your teeth with the tap water there, but drink bottled water only. I was pretty careful, but don't know what got me at the end. Never had that issue in Mexico or China.

5 hours is plenty of time, high altitude also makes you more prone to blood clots

Never use tap water for anything but washing your hands. Use hand sanitizer, everywhere. Keep mouth closed during your shower. Brush teeth with bottled water immediately after shower. Don't eat raw foods, including salads.

Lima: definitely the museum of the inquisition.

Saw it when i was a kid and it set me straight about religion.

Theres this strurdy oak chair there… with manacles and a head tilter … and a matching jewelled pitcher with a long spout… they pour water until you confess, and then they keep pouring.

This museum is a must see...

Museo Ora del Peru y Armas del Mundo

Best collection of gold, guns and shrunken heads I've ever been to

Bring some goodies and visit Joran.

Check cell phone coverage map and know what areas are totally blank in advance.

Get a couple pre-paid international data cards.
Or whatever they use 'down there'.

Find where the major banks are to exchange money.
Cash is king.
But don't lose it all somewhere to a maid or street robbery..
Keep it in several locations. Let the buggers get away thinking they've got it all. Meanwhile you stay safe and regroup to carry on.

Call your bank, or email in writing [better], and let them know the schedule and what the limits are just in case of major fraud.

An honest humble smile. With an honest attempt to communicate. IS UNIVERSAL. Rich. Poor. Whatever. Respect their world.

Parle vous Espanole?
uh I failed already.
