I was born/raised in Endicott and my wife in Conklin . Both just over the NY/PA border off I81 . We moved south 30+ years ago . Anyway keep us updated as you make the truck your vision .
|
I know the area, passed through Binghamton on 81 on the way to Hershey for the Porsche swap meet many moons ago.

Very cool. Can't wait to see project/update pics and info.

That’s a sweet little truck. Always liked that body style.

Old trucks can be fun projects. Anything from restored to full on hotrods. Very basic, I had a 56 F100 when I was a lot younger. There used to be an outfit in California that reforged dropped axles, Mor-Drop?
Have fun. |
Update: Bought a new battery, fabricated a new battery tray
as well to fit the larger battery. New cables being made, will be here Thursday. Cleaned surface rust off cab floor, used a rust encapsulator, painted the floor with rust oleum oil based paint. Will insulate and soundproof the cab next. Cleaned, and repainted a couple rims, polished the chrome and repainted a single red stripe on the s.s. beauty rings. Once I get the new battery cables installed, I’ll change the oil and filter and see if I can get the old y block up and running. I need to order a bunch of small parts like hood bumpers, hood seal and some other stuff. I’m kinda hoping the engine will start and run so I can determine what to do with it going forward.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1690263450.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1690263450.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1690263450.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1690263450.jpg |
NICE work!

Love the wheel transformation Bob! That is sharp.
|
Thanks Scott, Shaun. Have one more wheel to go. Takes about 6 hours of labor to clean, sand, prime and paint the wheels. The caps cleaned up quite nicely with mothers chrome polish. Need to get new lug nuts, that’ll finish that job! Started to lay down sound deadening on the cab floor. Will put in as much as I can to kind of “quiet” the cab. Shut the doors and it sounds like a sardine can inside. No Porsche door “tink” when the door shuts, that’s for sure.

It would be cool if that old Y block works out.
|
Tried to start it today Jack. No love. It turned over, would not fire. Pulled a plug, coated in oil. I fear rings may be stuck. Will perform a compression test to see what’s up. I got gas and spark, would not run . I suspect plugs are oil fouled. Will try again tomorrow.
