Not your regular Symphony
Date night last night. Took the Ms and another couple to the Symphony. We are not fancy people. I, as well at the gent from the other couple, are musicians, but...
This show was EPIC fun. Warner Brothers does a touring show mating the classic cartoons (bugs bunny, road runner etc) with an Orchestra playing the score along with it. One of the cool things. This tour started in 1991. They have updated the cartoons, and even played a few that have not been released yet. However, it has been to Vancouver, the VSO, 13 times over the years. There were 8 players in the Orchestra that played the very first one in 1991. Very cool. I saw Stuart Copeland playing the music of the Police with the VSO about 7 months ago and that was an amazing show as well. We are booked to go see "Casino Royale" in January, where once again the VSO will play the score of the movie while it plays. They play at the Orpheum, which is a beautiful old school true concert hall from way back. Great way to introduce people to how music is made, with real insturments, in a real music hall. If you get a chance to do something similar in your city, I highly recommend it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689486396.jpg |

The idea is so great: When my kids were little they had a similar concert at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra.
They showed 'Bambi' scenes without a score and then replayed the scene with NSO playing live. It was mesmerizing! |
Our NJ symphony will provide live sound tracks to movies. I've seen two episodes of Star Wars with the live music.

Flatbutt,
Yes same here. We are going to Casino Royale in January where the VSO plays the score to the movie. They do quite a few of these each year. |
The L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra just did "2001: A Space Odyssey" live at the Hollywood Bowl along with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. That had to be better than Imax.

The Orpheum Theater in Vancouver is such a cool venue! Built in 1927.
And, to think it was almost gutted in the 70s when owned by Famous Players. That notion was stopped, and instead the theater was restored. https://external-content.duckduckgo....c81&ipo=images https://external-content.duckduckgo....514&ipo=images |
Doug, yes, it is an epic venue.
