Hey fellas...... saw a post recently that's been bouncing around in my head.......

Nothing crazy or impossible BUT I could use your limitless insights......

So a fellow pelican was looking for a build sheet on his car and the original options that came on the his 911 when it rolled out of the factory.

It got me thinking of mine...... no reason..... JUST BECAUSE.

I poked around and saw/found a few sites that provide the information I am curious about, ALL the sites I found aren't working anymore OR don't go back as far as my 1974 911 does...... ALL of the sites were free...... I dont really want to pay anything as it isn't THAT important to me but I am curious.

Anyone have access to build sheet information sites?

I know with the 356s the Kardex information became no longer available via PCNA due to German privacy laws, but some guy in Sweden had copies and would distribute.

Your hope is to find similar for your '74 .... otherwise, no way to decode from VIN what option were there, etc.

It's not that expensive to get the Kardex and it adds value to the car.

Milt.... I came across a site that Charges 125.00 for a report and they don't guarantee being able to actually produce a document..... have no interest in paying $125....... this isn't THAT important..... I need a break from work and I'm just messing around before my next meeting....

Thanks. Back to the Kardex, PCNA is the only real source last I knew. And last I knew, it took awhile.

There is a guy I have used a few times that can get Kardex copies for 1970 and earlier I believe. I have a kardex for my 356 from him. He has a very good reputation on the 356registry forum. He can also produce a kardex like report that won't have quite as much information on cars that won't have a kardex. I'm not sure how far post 1970 he can go. Search for David Pateman on pelican or the 356registry. I can also pm his email. I am guessing he's gotten a lot busier with PCA changing their process with COA's.

Forgot about COA. I knew I was missing something. I knew my 71 was originally purchased in Madrid. But that isn't included with a COA, is it? It's been a long time.

I was wrong. Looking at an old website. Now called a Porsche Production Specification (PPS), and $125 online @ https://vehicledocumentation.porsche.com/usa/faqs.cfm

Hard to keep up. And that's funny because it says they changed in 2019.

Shortly after buying my 911S, maybe 1976 or so. I wrote the factory with my VIN, asked for production info. A couple of months later, I received a nice reply, giving the date & options when made. Of course, I passed the letter on when Evren got the car. Pretty sure he still has it.

I'm thinking they probably don't do this anymore, but seems to me the price of an airmail stamp to Germany isn't that much of a gamble, right?

Porsche doesn't issue the same COA it used to. They changed the process a few years ago because folks were using them to fake engine numbers make cars matching numbers that weren't. Take a blank case and stamp the number you got with the COA for example. At least that was one of the reasons I heard. The PPS won't give you much and won't include the original engine or trans numbers for the car.

To get that you have to go to a certified Porsche classic center and pay for them to inspect the car. They call this a CTC, classic technical certificate process and it is expensive.

Or, get the Kardex or Kardex Lite (post 1970) document from one of the guys who has access to the records.

Yea, Porsche realized they could charge big bucks for the info, and they now make it expensive.

There really is no "build sheet" like American cars came with. I found a real build sheet under the seat of my 86 El Camino. It takes a of work to figure out the codes they used, but that info is out there. It lists every different thing, like what steering wheel, instrument package, seats, rear end ratio, and of course what engine and transmission and a lot more.

Porsche kept lousy records in the 70s and 80s. Several friends when to the cost of getting the COA, on a car they bought new. It had wrong info, and was really a waste of money.
