back to mowing

After having next to no rainfall for a month and a half....we have had over six inches in the last two weeks. Back to mowing every third or fourth day....I enjoy it.

Sorry Steve, but you are going to have to go back and do it again. I can see a slight curve in the lines as you get near the shed.

Nice, looks good. We were mowing earlier this year, but have only mowed once in the last 1.5-2 months. It's hot and DRY here!

^^^ It takes almost 2 hours to mow the whole lawn. I stop halfway through for a beer break.

Today's beer break got doubled with the heat....that's my excuse for the curves.

If I had a smaller lawn, I would install irrigation. With over an acre, it's just not worth the price.

I think when we mow it's 5-6 hours. I haven't done it in a while, the missus took over the mowing, but I am pretty sure she mows 1.5-2 hours per day for 3 days to get it done.

Yep, we probably mow ~4 acres. No way in hell are we installing irrigation. I'm leaving mother nature in charge of that. Most of the time she does a pretty good job. But most of what's growing is native/feral and has been in place for years through hot and cold and wet and dry, so it's fairly happy. I think it was my dad that used to say "if it's green, mow it." That's the approach that we're taking here.

^^^ I only have a 2 inch well...it would never keep up with an irrigation system.
Plus, like you describe, much of my lawn has never been seeded with grass...I just keep mowing it.

I’d move that shed up about 1/3 of the way and seed it for wildflowers in that back 1/3.

^^^ That shed (8X10 ft) is an old chicken coop with a poured cement floor.
When I bought the property, I gutted it out and re-sided and shingled it over. I store my JD and other lawn care tools in there. I also added a roll-up door.

Nice, on both the mowing and shed renewal.
I miss mowing my lawn.
I'm afraid it'd piss my wife off no end if I took it up again though.
I think she may blame it for my having had my heart attack.

The shed has two large windows on the side not seen.(south side) Gives plenty of light.
After the pic, I added a cement approach to drive up into the shed.

I mow with a John Deere GX335 with a 48 inch deck. Can't go any wider because of the incline of the lawn along the road.

My brother built a shed just like that minus the roll up door, just to store his Speedster in at his old place.

When I was renovating it...the area above the ceiling was packed with straw bales for insulation. I started pulling it down and dis-lodged a few families of rats. Fun-fun-fun.This is what I cleared out of the ceiling.

I mow about 4 acres out of my 5.

not a big chore if you have the right size tool for the job.

Kubota with a 5' brush hog on back for the rough stuff.

Just bought a 60" Toro Zero Turn MY RIDE system, that has a spring suspension seat/deck so your body doesn't get beaten up. Check out the rear of seat mounted shocks, then there is a third under your feet for a floating deck. not many bumps at all..........SUPER SWEET MACHINE!

^^^ That's about what I paid for my JD GX335...but it's a rough riding tractor and my back suffers because I'm less than two years after back surgery.

Been seriously looking for something smoother riding but I keep hearing that the zero-turns are not the answer.
I might have to check one of those out.
