A bunch of the utubers I watch skip "to be" in their sentences. Like "Brakes need bled" Maybe its a midwest thing because thats where they are from.

Warning terrible negative post ahead... People are lazy and it's only getting worse.

One of my pet hates: A modern car with power steering end yet the driver still feels the need to cut the corner!

How about these?
Paying someone to do something you could easily do yourself (mowing the law or cleaning your house).
Not polishing your shoes/boots!
- Wearing a shirt in public that is not ironed!

But I'm old apparently.

You’d hate AUS/NZ then, they say it. Seems like a little thing to let live large in your noodle…

"We" generally do but I don't. Please, thank you and you're welcome goes a long way IME.

Also calling some Sir or Madam (especially if they're older than me) is something I do almost everyday.

Perfect and not surprising.

When I flew on Air New Zealand all flight attendants used both please and thank you when speaking to each other.

Refreshing to witness this degree of courtesy in existence again.....

I'm just glad "Cool beans" finally died off....

Time has value. When you are old it frequently has less value and you have more of it free - so the idea of paying someone to free up time seems … odd.

Yes it is completely irrational to hate anything so trivial.

Mildly dislike may be closer to rational, but personally couldn't care less which phrase someone chooses since their intention is to be polite.

Generally true. IME older people seem to waste a whole lot more time than they can afford to. My mother for instance spend most of the time laying on her couch watching TV. I encourage her to do more but she seems to like telling me off for doing so.

Honestly I'd rather die at a younger age than rot on a couch for decades.

I had a business friend who used "Cool Beans" all - the - time! Uggg

Steve Carlton 07-25-2023 07:13 AM

Were those beans cool temperature-wise or not spicy-wise? They couldn't have been the type that give you gas, right?

Rusty Heap 07-25-2023 07:18 AM

Once you key in on poor speaking skills, it rub you everytime they use the words 14 times in every other sentence

"like"
"Um"
"you know"

Any sales technique will teach you to please and thank you to make the customer feel appreciated.

What about "my bad"? A young employee of mine said that after screwing something up. I almost lost it!

flipper35 07-25-2023 09:23 AM

We were taught not to use a negative in the response. Always a positive. My pleasure, you're welcome etc. Don't use: Not a problem, no worries, etc.

I still do though. Sometimes.

Rusty, I can, like, totally you know, rub it in, like, awesomely, when people, like can't, you know, talk, like, litterally, a like normal, you know person. Drives them crazy, but they don't get it.
