Randy Meisner RIP

Well that's another great voice gone silent.

Well,
For us older folks it's hard to believe our music is becoming old and the artists are dying off now like my parents with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin etc. etc.

But Eagles hits were in the 1970's and almost 50 years...

He’s the only reason I ever liked the Eagles and they kicked him out eons ago. Somehow, he got screwed out of a lot of money as well, I think. The only songs of theirs I really like are the Randy Meisner songs, like “Take it to the Limit” and “One of these Nights.” RIP.

Yep, he wrecked his voice doing all of those concerts and then they just let him go. Pretty awful but he sang like an angel.

I read differently. He had issues of his own and he had issues with Henley and Frey. They all fought and argued. It was not pretty behind stage with even a fist fight or 2.

Don Felder got screwed over as well. Some nice music from some toxic musicians.
Tough life.

In the other thread about Mick Jagger turning 80, you have to wonder if getting along more or less has helped them live longer. God knows they lived hard as did the Eagles and just about all bands.

Henley and Frey were egomaniacs and became defacto leaders of the group. Bernie Leadon left, then Meisner, then Felder.

I remember Glen Frey saying Randy Meisner didn't want to sing Take It To The Limit anymore because he was having a problem hitting the high notes on the outro.

Glenn Frey said something along the lines of "Do you think I like singing Tequila Sunrise and Take It Easy every friggen night? No, but I do it for the fans. Just sing the friggen song or take a hike!".

He was from my parent's home town. Was good friends with one of my cousins. Apparently, was a heck of a nice guy.

RIP Randy Meisner

Linked article above says that Meisner said the band helped pay medical expenses for him in 2016 so as testosterone waned, compassion set in, maybe?

Clearly not a slouch.

Eagles Their Greatest Hits was the best USA selling album of all time. 38MM copies. Thriller was 34MM. Worldwide, Thriller is number 1 at 50+

Take it to the Limit is on the album.

One factoid I saw on a YouTube video. The Hotel California riff came from a guitar practice exercise Joe Walsh would play and I think Henley said that's going to be an Eagles song.

Hotel California came from Don Felder Sitting on his couch playing. The Joe Walsh exercise riff which became a song was life in the fast lane riff.
Felder is a great guitar player and teacher

I met Joe Walsh about 20 years ago and I blurted out, “I can’t believe you’re still alive!”

He answered, “me neither!” We both had a good laugh.

I never was into music as a kid. Too busy playing with cars and engines I guess.

I will admit to having the Eagles Good By tour video from Melbourne as shown on AXS tv on my DVR. It's been there for over a year now. I love listening to it when I don't have anything better to do.
I used to have a concert of theirs recorded at the Forum on DVR too but they didn't sound the same or the recording back then wasn't as good as the one from downunder so I erased it.
They did have some great songs.

Yeah I saw that in a documentary about the Eagles, I think it was on Netflix. Henley and Frey came off like they were ones who called the shots and all others in the group were merely employees, what a couple of douche bags.
Rest In Peace Randy Meisner, you dun good bro.

Thank you so much. Off the top of my head and that's getting riskier as time goes by.

I always liked Glen Frey’s quote “Joe Walsh is the greatest bunch of guys you could ever meet!”

I have a friend who went to rehab and was there when they brought Joe in. He said he was a nice guy but at that time was a complete wreck.

Glad he cleaned himself up. He’s a favorite artist of mine.

All these guys are getting on with age. Meisner is a huge loss. If you want a good read check out the book "To The Limit, The untold story of the Eagles by Marc Eliot".

If I remember- Randy was partying a little too much later years and didn't take good care of himself. Because of that he started losing the quality of his voice. When he refused to sing at that concert, it was the last straw.
