Goofed with goof off

Lest anyone else make this mistake.

Bought a new (old) Beretta for my kid to use. Case had some duct tape over portions of it. Genius here decided to use goof off to remove the residue. Spray, rub, job done.

That. Doesn’t. Work.

It looks like the case has been acid washed. I’m sure I’m hosed and there’s no recovery from it, so hearken ye to this tale of woe and always always always test first. xylene and plastic aren’t always friends…

At work we use 3M adhesive remover and it works real well. It has a citrus smell to it and we have sprayed it on pretty much everything and does not harm the finish.

You might reach out to a local gunsmith. There are several options for coatings so you might be able to recover.

Goo be gone seems to work good on plastic. I myself wrecked some plastic with Goof Off.

I would have tried WD40 but you are already over the falls . Good luck

Guns fine. Case is a mess.
It’s a 692 so the case is just a piece of blow-molded plastic - we aren’t talking a $250k heirloom here.

Life goes on. Lesson learned.

Yep. That's my go to for everything since its usually plastic safe and the oil or whatever that's in it can be washed off with soap and water. I am tempted to use it on muscle aches just like Windex was used in the movie My Big Fat Greek Weeding
