It’s scary just how much information we’re fed that is fake. From there it gets disseminated with no effort to verify…and so it becomes reality.
|
Wow, I would have never guessed. I have no trouble admitting that I was well and truly fooled.
In this case, harmless fun. What Mike touches on, though, is more than a little bit concerning. Digitally/AI unsophisticated old farts like me don't have a prayer... |

It's way easier when it's bears in a Chinese zoo.
Or is it? :D <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Wp8jZWU6deE" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I was fooled too Jeff. Until I saw Spuggy’s post. Unfortunately there’s no reason to believe anything in todays media. It’s all about capturing clicks to sell advertising and make money. Truth is no longer a part of the equation. Now that we are deep into the Information Age, it’s harder than ever to trust information.

I am fortunate enough to watch a lot of Boston Dynamics videos. Their reality indicates a more CGI nature to the ping pong one. But it won't be long before our robot overlords will be figuring out a way to eradicate the human race. You can count on that.

Isn't that crazy? I guess if I were cynical enough, I could say (in classic 20/20 hindsight) that all of this is "entirely predictable". Human nature. Where this "information age" could have been so, so good for humanity (and don't get me wrong, parts of it certainly are), it has proven to be no more than yet another way for a certain kind to take advantage of everyone else. Disappointing in the extreme.
But, alas, what did we really expect? Even worse than those who revel in this kind of misinformation, we have now seen, and have suffered under, those who simply want to control all "information". I fear for my grandchildren. |
I for one like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots

The dichotomy of human instinct to either control or help others is endlessly fascinating to me. Both characteristics must be genetically based with significant development from environmental factors. I think the main problem with humans and the information age is natural selection favors the control side. Couple that with the fact that the speed of the information age development outpaces evolution on a massive scale meaning we are victims vs. masters of our own creation. The human brain can't evolve fast enough to manage the speed and volume of information forced upon us today. We are, as they say, domed. |

I work for a company now (SGS) that is looking to provide analysis to prove out deep fakes.

Nowadays, it’s hard to determine what’s real or fake.

Humans can only detect AI deepfake voices 73% of the time too... https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/aug/02/humans-can-detect-deepfake-speech-only-73-of-the-time-study-finds Lot of YouTube videos use artificial voices. Couple of years ago, these seemed very jarring/obvious. Now, really not so much... |
