Gutter issue

On my house, I just put gutter guards on. They are the type where the water supposedly runs across and then turns downward and into the gutter. No screens. Unfortunately I think my roof is pitched too much and approx. 50% of the water flows over the edge of the gutter.
Anyone have any suggestions. Fortunately it’s a quadplex so I only have about 30’ of gutter that’s not too high off the ground. I would just clean but only there about 3 weeks a year off and on. Big Live oak is my gutter clogger though that might be seasonal. Still trying to get the lay of the land.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I hate gutters .... there, I said it ... and I ain't taking it back!

I've seen those type of guards advertised on TV.... and knew they wouldn't work for me either except during a light rain.

I have the other type of guards on the gutters that are still in place (I have removed most gutters) and they still suck too.

During heavy rains, I have "Niagara Falls" in two corners where the gutters meet at 90 degree angles.

I had that kind on my old house and they didn't work worth spit. When they are clean they work OK in a light rain, but as you observed, they can be overwhelmed. You have to clean any mold or dirt off of them a couple of times a year. Once they are dirty they don't work at all.

When I bought them the salesman said they were guaranteed. After mine were installed and didn't work I had a supervisor come out and look at them. I told him about the guarantee. He said something to the effect of "...the materials and workmanship are guaranteed. The installation is not."
"So the only guaranteed is that they are made out of aluminum?" I asked.
"Yes, pretty much."

I had the screen kind put on my current house. They work better, but still have to be cleaned.

Do you have a picture of the type of guard you are using?

I had the screen type on one of my rentals once.... never again, they totally suck and clog... I have (on gutters I still have up) the kind with slits ... much better but still suck bigly.

At least I don't have to deal with pine needles.... big oak and maple leaves don't clog.... but those maple "whirly birds" sure do :(

Some of the "screen" type gutter guards are expanded metal mesh. They catch everything and clog easily. The "screen" type I have is actually 1/4 holes, not literally a screen. The spent blossoms from the Maple trees clog the holes.
The biggest improvement was getting rid of the 5" gutters and replacing them with 6" K-line gutters. If I had it to do again i would have gone to 7" gutters, but at the time I thought the extra cost was prohibitive.

Patrick, I'm ready to take down to gutters I have in a couple of places that form water falls.... I didn't realize gutters came that large.

I just have two real "problem corners" with short gutter runs .... cost is not an issue.

I think a 7" gutter with no leaf guards at all might be my solution too... how big are the downspouts?

Thanks.... gotta do some searching ..... this is timely for me ....

6" gutters have more "fill area" and a lot more capacity than standard 5" gutters.

With 6" gutters my downspouts are 4x6.

We went to a "Home Show" once. You know the kind where there's hot tubs, water softener systems, window blinds, etc. being promoted. There must have been 10 different gutter cover types being sold. They all looked great but I have pine trees with pine needles and NO screen cover deals with them very well.

I don't trust any of the gutter covers. I, too, HATE gutters.

I have drainage pits, so I'm pretty meticulous about minimizing the amount of leaves that I will allow into all the underground pulling that leads to my pits.

Instead of gutter covers, I installed some downspout screen/filters. like this.

https://www.rainharvest.com/rain-harvesting-pty-leaf-eater-advanced-downspout-filter-round-output.asp?gclid=Cj0KCQjwz8emBhDrARIsANNJjS6uaNhNV 3U-l159bHxDufWjL5RFP5fTd8JeVGQr3T-2-FnTciF1BF0aAjKFEALw_wcB

it lets the gutters flow the water to the downspouts, but collects all the debris.

And then I gathered a variety of tools to scoop out the leaves from the gutters as they collect.

I like this, available on amazon and other places. I break at least one per year if I try to move too quickly with wet leaves, but attached to a long pole, I can clean 200 linear feat of gutters around my property in 10 minutes or less.

And half-round gutters are a gift from satan himself. never again.

Just remove them and be done with it.
