My 1974 914 2.0 was autocrossed thousands of times, and driven hard always. Pretty much every weekend, for 9 or 10 months per year.
My first clutch lasted about 90,000 miles. On Friday afternoon I drove home from work, changed clothes, and disconnected the electrics and fuel and mechanical parts. Saturday morning dropped the engine and transmission, did the entire clutch replacement, and reinstalled the engine and transmission. Sunday morning hook up the stuff I took off on Friday, and drove off by noon.
I did that twice over the years of owning and driving the car. Both times, 100% by myself, and the 914 was the only car I owned at the time. So I had to be certain I had all the parts and tools needed, as I was walking to the store to get something.
