Another what is it post. But explosive
First off I hope the images load. It's my first day ; ) (trying to load an image)
My daughter just returned from a a three week sea kayaking, back packing, ice climbing, white water rafting and mountaineering camp out of Haines, Alaska. On one of the hikes she found this. Kinda looks like a blasting cap to me but with no wires i'm doubtful. She wants me to hit it with a hammer. I passed. She thought the pelican community would know what it is : ) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691868649.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691868649.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691868649.jpg |
I don’t know, but I’m guessing it’s explosive!😂
|
no comment here.
|
Could be the explosive used to shoot a line.
|
Seems completely safe. It could be disposed of it in a camp fire (far away from people, buildings, and animals).
In case you aren't aware of the "rule" here in OT, green text is used to denote sarcasm. |
Sure looks like an electric blasting cap?
|
Looks like a primary explosive...
Under so many grams they're legal to own. |
Is it a squib used in movie/tv productions to simulate bullets striking the ground/surface?
|
It might be for seismic refraction surveys.
|
The sensible thing is take it to a field, shoot it with a tracer, and post what happens on youtube.
(I was going to say gun range, but, you don't want to hurt the gun range. A field is more expendable.) |

Also if you could mount it on a hobbyhorse before detonation that would be nice.

Maybe ask Alec Baldwin , I hear he's a munitions expert 😋 .

Could be what I believe is called an Emulsion charge or something similar. Used in avalanche control situations. Seen them where they add a nose device, fins and tail to some device with it then it's launched. Joking aside maybe ask EOD to look at it and see what they say.

Uh, just out of curiosity: how'd she get it from AK to MI?

Give it a lick or suck, it's candy, centre tastes of peppermint
Can be bought at most souvenir shops at all seaside towns in the UK http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691959275.jpg |

Just be careful. |
Don't answer that on the internet....
Seriously. Don't even ask her. |

Shouldn't need a tracer. Need the high m/s to make it go boom. |

Hmmm. We agreed to just say it arrived here by unknown means. ;) Thanks for all the responses!! Thanks Dave |

Fifteen or so years ago I found two of these in a garden under our bedroom window, and I believe we heard one of them hit the house in a dead sleep. There is what looks like a little metal detonator pin in the end which is pressed in. I assume they were shot from some sort of air soft or paintball gun.

Having served as a 12B Combat Engineer I've blown up a lot of stuff with a lot of explosives. Shape charges, cratering charges, Det cord, blasting caps, Claymores, etc.
To me that seems like either a prop or some type of fake charge. No fuse, too small for a blasting cap or detonator and doesn't look like C4. C4 is not highly explosive without a blasting cap or det cord. We used to use chunks to heat our C Rations. You could cut a small piece and see if it lights or burns, I'm thinking it's most likely inert. I would roll camera while doing so just in case anything cool happens! |
Wonder Woman's tampoon?

You'll have more street cred if it's done in Florida too! |
My best guess is that it is a type of firework.
