No. Unions are threaded couplings. You would cut the pipe, allowing room for the t and the pipe stubs needed and 2 threaded couplings. I'll post a link not knowing what size pipe you actually have.

The tiny blacked-out rectangle in the lower left is the little box with the incoming shutoff valve in it. The area shaded with dashed diagonal lines is the driveway and walkway.

The areas with the diagonal lines are plantings that go relatively undisturbed for years (no tilling). The areas with cross-hatched diagonal lines are ones I like to till each spring in preparation for planting vegetables. Everywhere else is grass I don't care about. Very possibly, there will be more plantings in the front. Lois Lane can't stop planting things.

Probably deeper than it needs to be. It is what it is. If they like a full 18", that's totally overkill IMHO, but whatever....


Sure, I could dig an inspection hole but I think I'll start that when I am actually going to "do this thing." At this point, I hope to learn more about what branches and bibs will be needed.

Much of Western Washington is "glacial till" which means round rocks of various sizes mixed with gravel and sand, with some organic material near the surface. The biggest rocks I have excavated so far were the size of medium watermelons. Not a lot of fun. I have a San Angelo bar and I know how to use it. Which is part of the reason I don't just go out there and dig a test hole in my slippers. When it comes time for trenching, I will use a machine if I am smart. There are some utility things (sewer and whatnot) in the vicinity of that valve box, but only in that vicinity.

Sorry for the delay, and now I will be gone for 11 days or more. In the meantime, this image shows two bibs in blue-ish ink with circled X's. Unfortunately, the only planting area reachable from a bit without hoses running everywhere is the tomato patch next to the upper bib on the South side of the house (I should have turned the images over, since the top of the page faces south instead of north.

Anyway, I think I probably need to run underground lines to the other planting areas. And also, it may be a good idea for me to plan the development of the front yard area which is on the left. This area is agriculturally undeveloped and I think Lois Lane is going to want stuff there. Largely plants as opposed to lawn. Perhaps I can do this in phases.

Thanks, Jim. This helps a lot. I will formulate a concept for us to discuss going forward. I understand there's no urgency, but will get it posted soon anyhow.

To your comment about future developments....it always helps to have an idea of how you envision the use of your property. Not always needed in detail but an overall concept would help.
