Why do I always...

Reply to social media questions with snippy answers?

For instance. A guys asks what it would take to replace his compact spare tire with a full size tire/wheel. I reply, "A full size tire/wheel.

Another example...

Name a place you haven't been but always wanted to visit.

I looked at the replies, "Italy, Greece, Alaska, Hawaii, yada, yada, yada".

My reply..."Jennifer Aniston's bedroom".

I just can't help myself.

Why do you think we care?

:)

Steve Carlton 08-17-2023 04:07 PM

Not sure what’s going on with you, Eric. This baffles me.

LOL! I often have the same initial reaction. I don't post those answers, but I certainly think them.

Only 3 out of 2 people can do math.

I can relate.

I have found that if I have a frequent tendency to post 'snippy' answers, I'm in the wrong room. Time waste.

My oldest child is heading off to college next week. We joined a FB group for families of students. My stars some of the questions posted by parents are ridiculous. A couple times I've been tempted to reply, "Helicopter much?" But I figured if I had nothing nice to say...

My son recommends I just make up answers; ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. When everyone shows up on move in day, you'll know whose Mom asked whether or not the school provides toilet paper by the kid who shows up with the Costco-sized package of TP.

Where is the always oh so clever, and never stops getting a laugh, contra-thread, like "Why do I never..."?

Watch out for bedbugs.

As far as I’m concerned, she can eat crackers.

Back to the OP's question:

Maybe it's because you're an incorrigible smarta$$?

Or maybe because you're fed up (like I am) with the insane amount of stupid questions that are asked daily by people who would get to a reasonable answer if they bothered to think about it...

I’m stopped at an intersection next to a guy on a bicycle wearing brightly-colored tights and matching helmet. In front of him, the reason we are stopped, the road guy is rolling with a paint roller some kind of glue across the intersection preparing to lay down a roll of that white striping that you see at intersections.

Bicycle guy asks, ‘Does that stuff really stick?’

Without looking up or reacting in any other observable way, the road guy says, ‘No.’

I’m sure the bicycle guy had no idea why the loonatick next to him (me) was dying of laughter.

I am an incurable smart alec. I have similar experiences.

Ha ha I love it Eric. Reminds me of one of my favorite Mad Magazine segments . . .

Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions.

Because many people like to ask inane questions
on the internet that have simple answers they should know,
but they are too lazy to figure it out and want someone
else to do it for them.

Then there are the ones who simply like to ask questions
for the conversation.
People who NEED to post at least one thread per day in the form
of a question, hoping someone will talk to them.
They are easy to spot, every thread they start is a dumb question.

What kind of bread do you like?
Do you like it when it rains?
Does anyone here drive a car?
etc.

In the examples above,
a snippy or smart alec answer is completely appropriate.
And if you put a winky-smile thing at the end,
it isn't even rude ;)

I had posted a 4500w generator online this spring. One of the responses to the ad , which stated the price was $200 firm, was,"Would you take 50?"
My answer was, "I would take 50. to hold it until you can get the rest of the money. "

Best
Les

You’re just getting old Eric…like the rest of us. You’ve become a curmudgeon.

I am guilty of trying to make a funny answer. Some get the humor, some are offended.

I learned as a kid, for most things it is better to laugh at it than cry about it.

I love listening to Jay Leno and Tim Allen banter with funny insults to each other. Johnny Carson was a master of it, and making his reply truly funny.
