Sorry Milt .... but this story gets even worse...

The service GSD (of 5 years) was pictured with his saddle/sign: "Service Dog / Please Pet Me" (that he might not have been wearing at home tho), but obviously a VERY socialized dog.

The county "Rescue Squad" worker, got out of his truck (responding to a 911 call for the owner's brother), PETTED the dog, and then a minute later shot &:killed the dog "in fear of his life" :(.

The owner is devastated .... could be any of us.... just sux.

He's been charged with animal cruelty which is a misdemeanor.

https://www.wxii12.com/article/north-carolina-davie-county-rescue-squad-member-kills-service-dog/44883344#

Davie County Animal Services conducted an investigation, which resulted in Logan Cartner, 27, of Mocksville, being charged with one count of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

I wonder how/ if this impacts his carry license.

KFC911 08-24-2023 06:32 AM

The Rescue Squad worker was in violation of state law by carrying (open or concealed) while responding to an emergency call also. He's still employed as of now :(.

Another news site (WFMY) has a more in-depth story (I can't cut & paste), ... he petted the dog at the door of the house, and shot the dog inside the home. Another veteran RS spokesman is commenting too .... worth reading.

The POS needs to be in jail ...

i am here for the wanting to prosecute cops for shooting dogs widespread support here.

This is an interesting documentary covering the subject of cops killing dogs. It's really tough to watch. I don't think I even got halfway through before I had to shut it off.

Whoever said cops are immune was wrong. Maybe WRT animals, IDK.
I don't read news about cops. It's never informative.

Are you sure it said, "Service Dog / Please Pet Me?" The ones I've seen say the opposite, "Service Dog / Please DO NOT Pet Me."

This seems like a situation where if you have a hammer every problem looks like a nail.

I was an appliance repairman for a summer during college and a part time delivery guy for the rest of the year. I've walked up to lots of houses and been approached by many dogs. I didn't have a gun, so I had to show a little courage if I was concerned for my safety. Cops - they have guns, "Oh, I'm a little nervous" BLAMMM!!

How long do you feel it's worth spending time in jail for assaulting someone that killed your dog?
1 year?
5 years?
25 years?

Daves911L 08-24-2023 11:31 AM

No doubt I’ll earn the ire of many “dog people” here. And, no, I don’t condone the shooting of the dog that this thread is about. But I really struggle with the idea of people assaulting and killing other people over dogs ( or any other animal). Have had many dogs ( currently Everest, an awesome Great Pyrenees) . They are well treated, loved, part of the family. But they are dogs . Not people. If someone killed my wife, or my daughter, I could imagine myself possessed with murderous rage. If someone killed my dog? I’d be pissed, and want them prosecuted with whatever law was appropriate but I couldnt see myself wishing them dead.

I would not be spending any time in jail.

The other guy, it would take at least a month for him to die after my wife got a hold of him.

WTF is a rescue squad anyway?

it is odd that folks will jump to brag about the torture they would inflict on someone who killed a dog, but praise that same person for killing people.

i personally think its insecurity. need to be the toughest guy, who loves his dog the most or whatever. you see this a lot around SA talk too. when of course, the person most likley to SA a woman ... is the man she is partnered with.

....

You may be correct Patrick.... it was on the local news as I was drinking coffee with the help of my Lab. It might have been the way the pic was shown, etc. I know you are correct on service dogs (blind, etc.), but this was an emotional support dog.... and I could have misread it. Evidently the dog was well known and loved by all .... a real sweetie. Regardless of what it said.... it was "socialized" .... that's for sure... not an aggressive one.

I would not be "feeling" anything but pure rage .... somebody pulls a gun out kills my dog, inside of my house.... all bets are off.

People know what they are doing. The are responsible for themselves and their actions.
Dogs run on natural instinct. They don't know any better .

Yes, Vinny.

I use the phrase "The Innocents" - these are the animals, the very young, the elderly, and the impaired.

I advocate for The Innocents - because they need and more importantly DESERVE our protection.

Everyone else is on their own as far as I'm concerned......
