How much would you pay for a OEM lug nut at the dealer?

My 3/4 ton ram pickup truck, a real work horse with a V10, needed 32 new lug nuts for some used snow tires on factory rims for this winter.

I picked up 4 snow tires and factory rims for cheap off Craigslist. I presently run aftermarket custom rims and can't re-use those nuts.

Checked on Amazon, Les Schwab, and then called the dealer.

Dealer wants $18.25 PER LUG NUT............yes almost $20 each.

$576 for 32 of them................f me sideways and call me Nancy. I literally asked the parts guy if I get a happy ending finish for that price........oh he laughed hard.

so $650 with tax out the door. yeah right

found a box of 10 of them on Ebay for $21, so I bought 4 boxes worth for a grand total of $85.

Don't even get me started on dealer factory hub caps., they're $250 EACH. Ebay has a aftermarket set for $85.

And we wonder why/how dealerships complain that they aren't getting enough parts sales traffic........
Edit: You were doing great! please

That's crazy money. My Land Rovers need lug nuts occasionally due to a cap that goes over them that expands and becomes useless. The OEM crap it pricy but there is healthy aftermarket around $8 to $10 each.

I used to visit my local BMW dealer all the time when I lived in Germany. Parts at the dealer were cheaper as was the service. Seems like they have it backwards in the US.

MY FIL just spent $100 on an oil change at the Ford dealer but they did do some courtesy checks of wipers and turn signal fluid...

My old Tacoma has the same chrome decorative cap over the lugs. All mine swelled from corrosion. OEM was like $8 each. I bought a fresh set from Gorilla Lugnuts for a fraction of the money. And no chrome cap.

And here I was already to complain about having to spend $10 for one for my wife's CR-V when the tire shop cross threaded one last time I had the tires rotated.

Try buying spark plugs for a Nissan Xterra from the dealer...

A bunch of years back, my dad needed a few lug nuts for his Lexus. I went to the dealer to get them. When they told me the price I almost crapped myself. ( I forget exactly what it was but it was ridiculous at the time...) . The parts guy told me go down the road to the Toyota dealer and ask for nuts for the same year Camry, they are the same exact ones.

They were more than half the price cheaper.

In 2010 I paid around $100 for 16 brand new and Genuine Porsche alloy lugnuts from the dealer. (4 per wheel. Each wheel also had a keyed lock nut from the factory.)

I'd hate to even think what those would cost today.

I'm curious. Why did they need to be OEM lug nuts?

Buying parts at the dealership is a bit like buying popcorn at the movies or a beer at a "gentleman's" club, paying for the location more than the part

I do love the piece of mind of an OEM part in general, but they are eggregious with pricing even with internet discounts.

I went to local honda dealership recently and they charged me almost 200$ for a timing belt.....just the belt. They charge 25% OVER msrp for over the counter sales

LOL. When I did the axles on my 944 long ago, I rang the Porsche dealer and asked the price of the bolts, intending to replace them on general principle. Seemed expensive to me... Noticed that PET gave 3 part #'s for the bolts, and one looked suspiciously like a VW part #. I called a local VW dealer, and the parts guy confirmed that the other 2 part numbers were VW and Audi, respectively. Same spec bolt. Yes, he had a big bin full of them he'd be delighted to sell me.

As I recall, the VW part was $1.25, the Audi part was $2.50, and the Porsche part was $3.75. Adds up fast.

Asked the VW guy if there was any difference. I swear you could hear him shrug down the phone. He said "they're a different part #, we charge twice as much for the Audi ones".

That was when I really began to understand the meaning of the term "Porsche Tax"...

Ducati do similar; their dealers want $180 list for the in-tank Bosch fuel pump for an injection era bike. Doesn't even come in a Ducati box (sealed Bosch box with a hologram seal, check # and a QR link to verify). Same Bosch pump was fitted to injection Mustangs - but list cheaper for that application - "a third of the price" cheaper. Same pump. And that's not even getting into non-OE generic replacements made by folks you've heard of (eg Walbro) that are cheaper still.

It's like a tax on people that can't google...

A full set of OEM lug bolts for my boxster $199.

A full set of Porsche, full Titanium lug bolts for a new Boxster GTS is $1145. They also showed replacement bolts for $10, so the titanium must be an upgrade.

Each centerlock nut for a Porsche GT3 is $259, so $1036 for a full set.
