Thoughts on a 2012 Cayman R?

I’m considering a local 2012 Cayman R. It is manual and fairly nice.

If I got this would I use it? I didn’t drove my air cooled much this summer apart from the drove to Luft and a few trips in the 911.

I like driving my Cayenne Turbo S a LOT!

No, you wouldn't use it.

Maybe

I owned a cayman R. And loved it.

It was light and tossable. Powerful and made great sounds. Mine was a pdk and I felt if this was going to be my last normally aspirated, fun sports car it had to be a manual. So I upgraded to a gt4. The dollars made sense. The gt4 actually has a more compliant suspension.

Either way, the car is low, small, cozy. Like cars used to be. They sound great and are rewarding to drive spiritedly.

As the years go on, I suspect it will be more challenging to get into and out of these little, low cars. But I’ll keep driving it as long as I can.

You should do the same.

Likely you would drive it a lot for the first month then you would go back to driving the Cayenne turbo and it would sit. Just drive the 930. But if you can pick it up for the right price that could be different.

718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is a better car than a GT4, the ride & quiet is superior. Not to mention it goes like a Bat outta hell and sounds awesome.

This is a sports car forum so, of course we like to break our spines with loud, rough and responsive suspension. I have 5, they all just sit most of the time including my 930. That is rough, lower, with BB headers and Bolra mufflers and a fire breather old school built with globs of power. Anyway, you know which key do I grab all the time? The 2010 Cayman S and the 4 runner for daily duty. With the transmission blue toothed to my brain aka, PDK and Cayman R exhaust, the usual bolt ons and lowered 1/2-3/4" making it a really fun aggressive street car. Oh yeah, it sounds great when I get on the gas but wife hates the loud noise. I get it, at times I wish it was a little more quiet so I can think. Anyway, if you get it, you will be like me, drive the SUV and Cayman 50/50 split only you have winter, we don't. The only difference between us is my 4 Runner handles nothing like your Cayenne Turbo not to mention the power. You get your cheap thrills neither way. I am afraid that you will feel the power lacking in the Cayman compared to the Turbo that you are used to. I wish my Cayman has another 50 hp even though it now has about 330 with a Cobb tune. Good luck with the decision. Let us know how it goes.

I have three 911's, two air cooled, and a 996. For reasons of practicality I drive my Volvo wagon 90% of the time. Lumber, paint, hockey equipment, snow, etc. The Volvo gets most of that driving.

My cab sat in storage until today, and there's not much summer left. I do not regret buying them, but they do not get used.

Consider your Cayenne the equivalent of my Volvo.

Having said all that, I'd buy it.

Do it. Is it the S on FBMP locally? I thought it was a lot of car for the ask.

What's not to like ? Go for it life is short .

Not the same, but recently bought at 2014 S, and absolutely love it. Previous P car was a 997S.
