Who will be the new Bruins captain?

Yeah, I know it is still summer but I'm starting to go through hockey withdrawal symptoms.

Bruce Cassidy said Marchand would have been his choice.

I wonder if that will hurt Marchand's chances (pride or jealousy by the new coach).

Wadda ya think?

I never liked Marchand due solely to his antics. His skill is not in question but can he lead by "good" example? The captain needs to set the mood in addition to providing the spark when the team is down. His recent behavior has been more in line with that so I'd give him a shot at the "C".

Captain needs to lead by example. Do you want the team to act the way Marchand has in the past?

He has changed that part of his game of late. The question is will the team follow him?

deBrusk - from a Leaf fan. A draft pick and solid young player. Or Pasternak. NOT the other guy.

You mean like how Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Clark... lead by example ? No choir boys in that group.

To answer the question, yes! March went from a 4th line aggitator to a first like leading goal scorer. He cleaned up his act. He's always had a work ethic second only to Zdeno and Bergie

Pasta is a great player but not a leader. DeBrusk got cranky and wanted to be traded... not a team player.

If not March, maybe Charlie McAvoy. Grew up under big Z. Hard worker and great work ethic.

Following Z and then Bergie is going to be tough for anyone. I think March has been there so long that he helped mentor most of the team and has their respect.

Won’t argue in McAvoy - another solid player. They will be in tough this year.

His agitating and a bit dirty in the corners is what makes him a great player.
I just can't get over the licking and kissing.

I don't understand the fascination with the 'C'. Or the hockey purpose.

Referees used to only talk to the captain. Now? They talk to every player, coaches, and anyone on the bench.

Players know who the leaders are. The 'C' is not about hockey, it's about a person's ability to speak to the media night in and night out, and not make a major PF gaff.

flatbutt 08-29-2023 10:14 AM

The "C' is also a sign of respect within the team. Kinda sorta like when my team always waited for me to lead them out onto the ice and then skated by whacking my leg pads for luck.

"Looch" of course. He's a fan favorite and who's going to argue with him!

That would be true if the team selected the Captain. Would the Leafs vote for John Tavares? Not a chance, but he wears the 'C'.

Want to talk about respect for the captain. How about crybabies?

Marchand, reportedly.
