What's up with Felipe Massa ?
He's suing somebody about something, the gist being they stole his championship or something. I don't get it,
|
Singapore 2008. An intentional crash scrambled Massa's chances to pick up points and he lost the championship to a fellow named Hamilton. Bernie E just spilled the beans.

But didn't he rip off the fuel rig and carry it down the pit lane during that race?
Other than that, didn't they already go over this with the intentional crash in the past? I always thought Glock got paid off. But this seems more realistic. |

Yeah, Glock was passed by Lewis on the last corner of the last lap. Lewis finished P6, got that sole point, and won his first championship over Massa. Granted it was very rainy in Brazil, but I would have expected Timo to have put up more of a fight. I mean, holy cow, it was the last corner of the last lap of the last race of the season, and points (or at least one) were on the line! It was almost like he rolled over and let Lewis pass him.
I remember seeing the televised images of Mr. Massa in the pits. One moment so joyous, thinking his son had won the race and thereby won the championship. Then realizing that Lewis had eked by Glock at the end and taken that one vital point. Montemezolo admitted he threw his remote through his TV at home in Italy when that happened. |

I have to assume the people around Massa are pushing him into this.
I can't imagine his roller coaster ride of thinking he was world champ, and seconds later learning he was not. It would be a crushing blow to anyone. I remember he "took it like a man" and in public at least acted professionally and respectfully to Lewis and on the podium. |
I'm sure Massa feels cheated, but how can you change something like this from 15 years ago? The rules state once the year end banquet has been held and the championship trophy awarded, it's final.
He lists "lost income" as one of the reasons for the lawsuit. As if needs the millions? (Or is that just his lawyers talking--their lost income?). Seems like a pathetic grab attempt to me. You lost. Get over it. |
^^^
Seems like if he had a case he should have made it years ago. From what I understand this has to do with the 'intentional' crash that helped Alonso win that race. That was investigated a long time ago. What I don't get is how he thinks that helps him with WDC since IIRC he didn't finish the race anyway. |

I was working for Ferrari F1 at the time, watching the race live with work friends on a big screen along with 1000's of Tifosi at Maranello in the town square We lost that championship by 4 corners on the last race So you imagine my delight when in 2021 after I'd helped Honda F1, Max Verstappen won his championship a few corners from the end of the last race What goes around comes around! Both championships were decided not on those last corners but over the whole season |
Part of it looks a bit sad..especially since Massa looked very classy in a heart-wrenching defeat after HAM crossed the line, so he's damaging that image a bit IMO.
The again Ecclestone spilling the beans means it's out in the open now.. I doubt they will reverse the results now, but it may set the record straight and force F1 to act more like a regulated business and less like a Mafia. I'm a fan of Alonso in general but I never believed he knew nothing of what transpired in Singapore. I do not know how he got away with that. I suspect Briatore took the heat and that is why he is still his manager. |
