No inspection in Oregon. No salt on roads either. But, Shaun brings up a great point, there are lots of uninsured vehicles. I don’t know if we have more than average but I have heard 30% kicked around as fact. And yes, we do have a fair amount of crappy old cars on the road. (Some are mine)

Nothing in IL with the exception of emission testing but I'm not sure that testing is statewide.
Europe has them. I was in Germany a number of years ago and a colleague of mine who owned a car changed the summer tires to winter tires for the winter months. He told me that if he was in an accident during the winter with summer tires, he would get fined heavily. Nice idea I thought, but I don't think that would work in the states. |
In Louisiana we have "Brake Tag Sticker's". It's a yearly inspection for brake lights, high/low beam, headlights, turn indicators but no brake checking. Oh your horn must work.

WA hasn't had them in the 44 years I have had a license. Some counties had smog every 2 years. That went away about 5 years ago. We don't have cars rust like they do elsewhere but that doesn't mean there aren't some crap cars on the road.

Currently in TX there are probably more illegal inspections than legal.
Huge problem here. We have “inspection stations” whose addresses are anything from bagel shops to vacant lots and some of them are churning out 400 inspections a day. You couldn’t do that many even with 10 bays much less the one to none some of these places have. |
