Starlink

What is the pelicans team reviews of this satelite hook up?

There are some threads on it. We love ours.

masraum 09-03-2023 05:53 AM

Yep, pretty big thread on it. The consensus seems to be that it's good.

We have it too; $120 a month. No issues, it just works.

SpyderMike 09-03-2023 07:06 AM

Yep...add us to the list. Way better than the alternative satellite options. Way better.

sc_rufctr 09-03-2023 09:48 AM

It would suit me (remote area) but the only real issue is expense. It's about twice as expensive as regular wired internet.

I'll be at my place 30 miles or so from there this week and it looks like clear skies. What direction were they moving? Saw a string a couple of years ago and they were moving WSW to NNE. Same route?
I'll be looking for them.

We live in rural Upper Michigan (I suppose everyone up here is considered rural!). Of course, Internet providers are rather limited in this area so we signed up with a local provider and struggled for 2-1/2 years with spotty and oftentimes NO Internet. Adding to this already difficult situation is the fact that we were unable to get a phone LAN line so we were were forced to use WiFi for our cell phones. Because my wife is a physician, having reliable communication with the outside world is a necessity... our crappy Internet was unacceptable; however, our choices were almost nil.

Then finally Starlink was made available in our area. We signed up on the 'list' and although it took several months as well as an additional delay, our number 'came up'! I installed the unit several months ago and we have not had any issues. Finally, reliable internet!!! Yes, it is more expensive monthly PLUS the upfront cost for all the equipment was close to $1K ($599 + antenna ridgemount kit+ additional mesh router) - it was still an EXCELLENT purchase and we are EXTREMELY happy.

I think it depends upon the time and place. THey are usually moving diagonally (not N-S or E-W). Sometimes it's one way, other times it's the other way.

Here's a time lapse photo (stack of photos actually) of their trails.
