So many people crawling all over the world, now every secret treasure and location will be found and ruined.

Cropped photos from the Facebook page linked in the story.

Note the shape and the condition of the blades, the edges especially. WOW

Peter, those pics reveal a very lethally practical design.

I lived/worked in Israel for three years

And have been to Ein Gedi.. Israel is such an amazing place, so much history packed int o a country smaller than the size of Vermont..

Everywhere you look there are things of historical-biblical importance and significance..

I have no doubt there are many hidden artifacts still waiting to be found...

The Negev/Judean Desert is an incredibly harsh environment.. how people lived and survived a millennia ago is amazing

and you had to have balls of solid rock to get in close enough to use it.

Most of the MEN who swung those in battle died young.

It would be better if the treasures
all laid buried and lost,
never to be seen by human eyes again ;)

^^^ I wouldn't be surprised if a place like that does actually exist.

The Smithsonian has places like that.
When you give them enough money to buy
almost everything, that's what they do.

2nd pic appears to include a sheath. If not the sword is delaminating.

It's no Samurai sword.

The sheath is made of wood which is very interesting to me because it would've been easier to make it from leather. So was leather more expensive in the ancient world? Cost has always been a big factor in the design of military weapons. Just a small reduction in cost per item means a lot when you're making thousands of them.

Most of their body armor was made with leather under metal so maybe that was a priority.
