I found a very nice compressor in the ditch. It just needed a new starting capacitor.

Nearly all of my 5 gal buckets are roadside finds. I've also collected a crowbar, a DeWalt toolbelt, a really nice coil of rope and a very short term girlfriend.

I’ve a short update as I’m on my phone. Stopped by the roadside with preparations including ratchet straps and a 2x4 to strap the pipe against. Ends up these EMT pipes are 20’ long! I wasn’t able to get a good look at them until that day. No way am I getting them home in the truck which was a let down. I’ve got a utility trailer 10’ long and could probably strap them in it but not sure it’s worth the trouble now. That also explains why it’s likely no one else has picked them up yet.

20' lengths is how PVC pipe comes - at least for commercial use.

I have draped it over the top of my Silverado cab plenty of times. Bungee cords to secure fore and aft with pipes band strapped.

Bring a sawzall and cut them in half?

MBAtarga 09-18-2023 07:10 AM

Cutting in half is an idea I already had. They are flange end 20' pipes - so I lose the flange on half of them if cut in half. It just detracts from future selling value. Also - it puts me on the roadside a lot longer than if I could just pick them up and toss them in the truck.

I'm just not as hyped about this "find" as I was previous to realizing they are 20' rather than 10'. I'm still thinking this through.

16 foot 2 x 4 and straps. I do it all the time. You'll have to rest it on the cab and 4" over the tailgate (more if you have a red flag). You can probably do a temporary load good enough to pull into safe parking and redo it all for the trip home. Using bungees, it might be faster and more manageable to pick up 3 at a time to move to the truck. Be ready for the pipe to be dirty.

I take 18' boards on my 8' trailer pretty regularly.

A couple of 12' 2x4's hanging out front and back will help.

If you have a trailer....
