Civil War movie

If you were hoping for a movie about the U.S. in civil war today, you will be sadly disappointed. If you thought to yourself, I would really love a movie about combat photographers in a semi-dystopian future with Ron Swanson as president, you will probably enjoy it. Aside from the bait and switch based on all of the previews, it's a well done movie and the last 15 minutes made it all worthwhile. Best to wait for an online provider and a rainy Sunday afternoon than to head out to the theater.

I want to see it. I hear it's very suspenseful.

(PS, I'm betting this will go to PARF in six posts based on movie title, or the sniper's fingernail polish.)

It's not really PARFable as there weren't clear sides in the war. And neither side any moral authority over the other.

It is gripping, and a decent movie, just not a movie about US civil war.

I don't move anything to PARF...they move on their own because many people here have zero discretion, either side.

That's the Way of the World:

You’re right, that is more concerning than the bright green hair.

I've always liked her. I think she's worked pretty steadily, but mostly not in blockbuster stuff, at least not since the Spider Man movies.

Is anything from Netflix actually a "blockbuster"?

I saw it last night. Theatre was empty. I was dying to see it and I hate everything about the movie experience. I hate people too. I have been to the movies under five times in the last 10 yrs. This movie SUCKED. Save your money.

The suspense consisted of waiting for a plot, waiting for any explanation of what the civil war was about. They never explained it and, with TX and CA being on the same side, well, I needed to have that explained to me. And it never was. What I think the plot was was a few photo journalists trying to get from NYC to DC via Pittsburgh and Charlottesville. The scenes with helos were ridiculous for the lack of downdraft over water and tall grass. Might as well have been a cartoon.

Again, I was so looking forward to this movie and I haven't felt so robbed in a long time.

Ouch! Sounds horrible.

It sucks to go in wanting something asked then experience that much disappointment.

The bait and switch between the trailer and the movie is very real and there should be a disclaimer at the beginning and end of every trailer: "If you have ever posted on the internet how many rounds of ammunition you have for the zombie apocalypse, this movie is not for you."

But it's otherwise an interesting and at times thought-provoking movie.

Kirsten Dunst is an enigma to me. She was great in the Toby Maguire Spiderman movies but either miscast or overcast in most of her other movies. She was irrelevant in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and while Kate Winslet was fantastic in it, Dunst could have done just as well. It's almost like they had to chose between the two for the lead role, picked Kate and gave Kirsten a small role just because. Melancholia, miscast. Hidden Figures, small role but well played. Civil War, her character could have been written so much better than it was and I think she would have risen to it. Her performance was somewhat telephoned in. Joe, her partner was well played. The young girl character was good.
