I get a handful of checks made out to me each month. Routine is go to my bank and cash them.
I only do this once a month. Last time I was there, my teller tells me they have a new system. I have to use my debit card - then they text me a security code. Then I give them the code. All this while I sit in my car face to face with them in the drive through. A bank I have had the entire time it's been there - with a fairly substantial ongoing balance. UFR..... |
I like the scrutiny. My friend got his identity cloned and it was hell to reverse. I try to focus on the fact that it’s to protect me.
Then I’ll pull out my passport as ID and go on with my life. |
Recently, Venmo froze my account. After a couple weeks, they sent an email demanding all sorts of things, including a photo ID, and at least two utility bill showing my address.
I couldn’t find any record they had of my address on their site, so I called them and asked them. No, that’s not something they keep track of. They have no idea where I live. But that doesn’t stop them from wanting me to prove it using utility bills. ****ing idiots they are, you can probably guess what my next comment was... |
It's somewhat stupid out there... My kid was applying for a driving permit at 16. He needed 2 forms of ID... What valid IDs do you have at that age ?
Lucky him he has a passport... #2 was gonna be the federally recognized and FBI database + customs interview checked "GLobal entry" card. Guess what ? that's no good - LOL, needs an address... OK then what ? School report card ? Student ID ? no good needs a DOB... School transcript - yeah that's OK !! So you are telling me that a piece of paper I could have faked in 2 minutes is more of a valid proof of ID than a global entry card ? LOL |
Been there ........
US bank, have a checking account for many years, went to open a savings account, was asked for ID, showed my divers license, was told it was to "new". I could not use my valid DL, that was just recently renewed, because it had been issued in the last 30 days. |

So while it may be a pain, and seem nonsensical, it's probably better than having your accounts wiped out and your financial identity screwed requiring lots and lots of time to fix. Quote:

I did not get my Social Security card until I was 13. I still have that original card, still stapled the part of the form by them, and it says right on it, not to be used as a ID. My dad's SSN was also his service number, and it was on my ID card. I used to know his SSN as I used it often on base. I have forgotten it after all the years. |

Man, here I thought my experience was a PITA. My issue is nothing compared to your dad’s. I’m sorry you had to go through all of this. I do like how you used the big hammer to get their attention. Unfortunately you had to resort to this level, but it worked. Hope dad is doing better T Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I filed for a CA ID when I was 12 back in the day. Went to DMV and filled out all the paperwork myself. I did this because I had a paper route and I could cash and deposit checks from my customers. A bit unusual back then but we got them for my step sons because they had to travel to visit “the donor” monthly. I like the idea for emergency purposes and for medical reasons. I fully also understand there are many that do not. I respect whatever decision folks make. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The Lunacy of “proper identification” conundrum.
Here is a new one…..
If you want to shut down a store, cashier and manager, just write a check(old school) and use the US Passport ID card as identification. They honestly do not know how to process it and when asked to see my CDL, they won’t accept it because it shows expired even though I have the supporting paper from DMV showing valid. I give up………..[emoji849] [emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371] |
