That looks like a lot of fun. Long ride! Gives the resort something to offer during off-season.

The good stuff starts at 10:00

I'd rather walk through beautiful country like that.

Here in the NE US there are many Alpine slides... Some are spectacular others not so much

I believe we have one on scenic Mt Hood.

We used to have one at the ski area now known as Mtn. Creek. However, it was far more primitive and didn't last long due to injuries.

It was not on rails. It was a very long concrete half pipe sunk into the ground. You rode on a sled that looked like an auto mechanic's creeper that had a brake lever. By brake I mean a brake that simply dragged on the ground.

Too many people got ejected at high speed incurring some serious injuries. The worst were the ones that landed on the concrete half pipe and continued to slide.

Chestnut Mountain has a race/alpine slide.

Alpine slides are typically fiberglass / cement tracks with high walls in banked turns so when you fall off the sled, as happens frequently, you leave a mile long trail of flesh in your wake.

We could always tell who'd gone to Traction Park over the weekend.

Every bit true and worse.

As a west coast native I am fortunate enough to have experienced (survived?) Action Park circa 1989 or 90. What a wild place that was.

The whole area was wild.

You had the Playboy Resort right there and night skiing at Vernon Valley/Great Gorge.

That was always special, finish a day of skiing then hit the bar, get hammered then go back out on what was by then a sheet of hard pack ice with some floodlights here and there.

I'm surprised more people didn't die there than Action Park.

Looks like a rollercoaster to me.

TimT 09-26-2023 08:30 AM

I've been on both types of Aline slides.. the fiberglass track, and the one where you ride on rails.. You can do bodily harm on either.. Killington and Pico have slides, which is where I rode them the majority of the time since that location is closest to my place in Vermont.

I think Catamount had one, but apparently it closed.. they do have zip lines..

I too survived Action Park

I used to snowboard at Hidden Valley just down the road from Great Gorge. And yeah me and FBII went to Action Park a lot. The 100 ft water slide was awesome. Atomic wedgies every time.
