Generational nomenclature by TV series.

Tonight, as the family went to dinner, we discussed generational labels.
Baby Boomers. Gen X Gen Y Gen Z. etc....

After about 30 seconds of trying to explain this to our kid, I became frustrated. Not because she couldn't understand Baby Boomers, but, because I can't keep track of what I am (or any subsequent generation). People are just making s$% up.

From here on out, I identify by TV series.

Henceforth:

I am Dukes of Hazzard. Older people hated it (well- it was cheesy). The evil "flag" on general lee makes it too dicey for today's folks. I loved it. Dukes therefore encapsulates a specific moment in TV history that describes me.

I am generation Dukes of Hazzard.

edit- as much as I'd like to mention "Little House, Waltons, Bewitched, MASH, Star Trek" etc- these shows appeal to earlier generations, therefore they are out.
edit- I will also begrudgingly respond to "Battlestar Galactica" - that would work.

My wife and I discussed this. We think we can be identified by Ed Sullivan's Beatle's era, Love Boat, Gilligan's Island, The Prisoner, etc. Dukes for sure. Don't forget F Troop!

I am the My Mother The Car, My Favorite Martian, McHales Navy, Get Smart... generation.
I understand the allure of the Daisy Dukes generation but not my thing.

Precisely- If someone mentioned "Friends", it would be dead to me.
And that's a bit of a sad thing, because Hazzard was kind of cheap, but fun. Most of what I watched was syndicated reruns of 60's shows that were way better.

My original suggestion was Little house, but my wife stated older people watched that too. My grandfather watched Hill St. Blues, but hated Dukes, so she said 'that' was my show, as my grandad couldn't tolerate it.

McCales Navy, Get Smart- Awesome. I watched the hell out of those. I've never even heard of My mother my car. My Favorite Martian sounds familiar, but I've never seen.

OK, so I understand this, list specifically which generations belong to which TV series - so then I can also play along....

...and now for a live OP edit/clarification-

as I am running this on an adjacent site, I am opening this up to actors as well.

Evidently I identify as generation "Dirk Benedict"

The first movie I remember seeing in a theatre was The Wake of the Red Witch and the actor was John Wayne.

And to hijack my own thread- google "(year you want) Television Schedule" for the weekly lineup of whatever was playing.

I was surprised to find the shows I watched were on the air a good 1-2 years earlier than what I remember. They also played later at night than I remember.

"1979 TV schedule"

First TV actor was James Arness so I guess I would identify as the Gunsmoke generation.

I'm a boomer. My earliest TV memories are from Romper Room and Wonderama. Then of course it was original Star Trek.

"Infantile" would be my description, but "cheesy" works if you want to be charitable.

Out of what?

I was never a big TV fan. When I would have an overnight with my cousin he would get up on Saturday morning and watch My Friend Flicka and some other horse show, there was a show with a gravely-voice old guy and a "Froggy" character. Sky King was the only show we watched that I had any interest in. He wanted to eat cereal and watch TV all morning and I just wanted to get outside and do something.
