Computer Battery Question

Probably a dumb one, but can a 68Wh battery be replaced with a 62 Wh battery? This is a Dell Latitude. Voltages are the same, connections are the same, dimensions are the same, etc...

Looked on the Dell.com site and there was one comment saying one shouldn't go from a higher Wh to a lower Wh battery. If 68 to 42, sure, that makes sense. But would 6 Wh be enough to be an issue?

Thanks, Dave

It may well work, but battery time will be shorter than before.

Most people want a higher capacity battery for more time operating on battery.

Many laptops had the possibility of 2 different batteries with one being standard and the other being an optional upgrade.

eg - buy our laptop for $999 w/48Wh battery
or if you want longer battery life, $1199 with 64Wh battery!

Also, in the past it was a thing to update cell phones with larger capacity batteries to give you more battery life.

I don't think there's any issue with a different capacity battery being used as long as it fits and the voltages and connections are the same. I suppose it's possible that some devices may have some sort of intelligence that caused a problem, but I think that would be the exception rather than the rule.

The BIOS may complain about it not being up to its coded-in spec

Also, form factors for batteries tend to vary slightly, even between similar dell models....

My machine didn't like the change. Won't charge the 62 Wh battery. Did get a bios error message. System didn't recognize the battery as OEM.
