Adjuvanted/high dosage flu shot question
Getting notices almost every day that it's time to get the flu shot. At age 65 and up, they automatically give you the adjuvanted or enhanced shot.
My question is....Can a person request the normal dosage shot if 70 years old? My last few years with the enhanced has led to a day or more with splitting headaches. (I normally never get a headache) If I have no choice on the dosage...I'm skipping it. |
FWIW I've never had a flu shot...or the flu.
|
I just started getting the shot about 5 years ago.
The reason being that I had the flu when I was in my early 50's and it hit me hard. Fevers and every time I thought I was improving, it came back full force again. I think I was off work for over a week. I figure if I get it again at age 70...it will prob be the last time. :) |
I would say check with your doctor . My wife and I get ours tomorrow morning . We are taking her 90 year old mom also .
|
Are you and your wife over 65 years old? If so, you will get the enhanced version.
Let us know if there are any after-effects. Her mom must have had the stronger version in years past. (I believe they started the enhanced about 5 years back) |
I am 65 and my wife is 66 . Nothing seems to bother my MIL in regards to any shots/vaccines .
|
FWIW, wife & I got the senior dose a week ago, no adverse reaction at all not even a twinge in the arm from the needle. We are both well beyond 65.
|
I got the spikevax and flu on Saturday. Felt like poo Sunday. A little over the counter meds and I was fine. In my 50’s so not the turbo version.
My assumption is that if you feel poorly after a vaccination, it means your body is working hard to respond. |

Good to hear. A couple more results like yours and I'll try it again. |

Your reasoning sounds good...I consider my health strong. I have wondered why the dosage is the same for all. Shouldn't body weight be factored in? |
Had our shots this morning , confirmed with the needle lady it was the high test version 😁 . My wife and I showing no symptoms other than the usual slight pain at the injection spot .

what kind of logic is this? |

That's good that no effects. Although, I remember it always took about 10-12 hours for mine to set in. Hopefully yours don't at all. |

I have had the flu....post #3 This is about getting the normal dose instead of the enhanced....as stated in the thread  |
There's no law. You can have whatever you want. Some folks with autoimmune disease get a half dose.
|
^^^ I'll ask for the normal one when I go next week.
Does body weight affect the shot's after-effects? |
