Question on taking off a big bolt on floor jack.

Has anyone ever remove this big "pump" to replace seal in there? If so, can you enlighten me on how? I try all kind of wrench with no luck, include big pipe wrench.
Thanks in advance.

Would there be any reason for that to be a LH thread? Otherwise, I got nothin'
(except try and find an exploded view of that model and see if there's some widget that needs to be removed before you can unscrew it)

It’s hard to tell on my phone, but can you see threads and which direction they go?

That part would be regular, (RH), thread and just possibly very tight. What makes you think that the leak is there?

I'm in the middle of rebuilding an old Snap-on floor jack right now. I kind of set it aside for a minute because of other more pressing projects in the shop. I watched a YouTube video that showed how to reseal the whole hydraulic pump, which you have to remove from the jack. That part is not difficult, it's just those bolts on the side near the rear.

Getting that little pump part loose was a bear but impact is the secret. I did not use my impact gun, (didn't have the right socket), I simply put a huge box end wrench on it and hit it with a BFH and it came loose.

There is a circlip on the spring on top of that piston. I already removed it. I looked around that piston and there is nothing, except screwing that piston out (I guess).

Hey Denis,
How have you been?

What Make I think it's leaks? Because I can see oil sip out from there.

My thought is the same. Taking all those bolts loose and un-screw it but no socket that I have would fit. If I can have the socket, I can use impact gun. I hope there should be some o-rings in there?

Maybe I will try the hammer again.
Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I am back, with new problem. Hope everyone doesn't get sick of me yet.
I attempted several times and gave up on the idea of removing that big bolt, then I decided to bleed/refill the fluid/oil because I feel that the jack seem to be somehow weaker than before.
On first day, I could only remove 1 of the 3 screw caps to refill. Still feel that is is weak, and I also feel that the first 1/4 or 1/5 of the stroke doesn't raise the jack at all. Second day, I could be able to remove all 3 caps and pumped a lot of oil out. Refilled and pumped, tighten the caps, refilled and pumped and repeat. Result is that the jack doesn't hold it's position after each stroke. I redo again and again many times, same problem is still there. Does anyone experienced this and had a solution?
Thanks in advance.

PS: This is the second jack I run into this problem. The first time was on another jack, many years ago.

There must be some sort of check valve between the pump piston and raising piston.
Also, it sounds like you might have an air pocket. Maybe filling in a different orientation will eliminate that. I've rebuilt my Craftsman jack about 3 times. The last time I did it myself after getting a seal kit. It think I got the parts from here https://www.hcrcnow.com/shop/parts

Did you remove or adjust the over-pressure valve? There could be debris in there or it is too loose.
You don't want to tight it too much. It is set at the factory to protect the jack.

In a sense there are two "check" valves. One for the lifting and one for over pressure. Both need to seal.

Oh no. There are 3 screw caps. 2 had a little screw on the bottom. I tight them all to hand tight. Maybe that did it. I'll loose them up tonight to see if they are the culprit.
Thanks HColes.

tried that, then several ways on bleeding, still doesn't work. Sounds like a new jack for me.
Thanks everyone.
