Reading a battery age sticker
Once again, I come slinking, hat in hand, to the PPOT brain trust for information.
I've never paid any attention to the age sticker on a battery, but I need to know about this one. If I'm reading it right it was installed in September of some year ending in a 5. Probably 2005 or 2015, right? Do batteries simply age out? This one has hardly been used, but it is in a car that has had chronic starting problems for 30 years and I'm trying (finally) to diagnose the problem.

According to what's punched out, yes '05 - Sept. Yes batteries do age out for various reasons. By this date, its the first thing I would replace with a good brand such as Interstate Batteries

Thank you. That is good to know.
I think NAPA brand is made by Deka. I, too, like Interstate's batteries. I don't remember the year, but this battery was replaced to fix a slow-cranking problem. It didn't help, which is why the car has been just sitting so long. So a new battery is in the offing, but the other problem still needs to be fixed. The car will be sitting without an engine until early summer, so I have plenty of time to clean grounds, ect.

You didn't mention what car, but I'd suggest going up on the CCA's (Cold Cranking Amps) to at least 750...
